Let Us Worship God

Invitation To Worship

Pastor: Seek the Lord while he may be found.
People: We call upon God who is near to us.
Pastor: Let the wicked abandon their way of life.
People: Let those who are evil change their way of
thinking.

Pastor: May all people return to God who is merciful.
People: The Lord longs to forgive and restore us.
Pastor: God's thoughts are different from ours; they surpass
anything we might think.

People: God's ways are not like ours; they are beyond
what we could imagine.

Pastor: The Lord's words never return void but always accomplish their purposes.
People: God's word is everlasting. May it take root and
grow in us.

†  Note to the congregation:  Feel free to stand in place if you desire. Sing softly or hum if you’d like.

†    Hymn 246    “Christ Is Alive”    Wren

†  Confession and Pardon

† Prayer of Confession    In Unison

We struggle as your church, O God. You call us to live faithfully, act justly and bring peace to the earth. Instead, our lives and your church reflect more of our needs and worries and less of the needs and worries of all peoples. Move us beyond ourselves to hear the cry of the world and to respond with acts of kindness, mercy and justice.

May your grace shine through a church that, even with its shortcomings, accepts the call of Christ to serve and care and love and bring peace. May we feel your Spirit empowering us to become the church you have in mind for us to be.

†  Assurance of Forgiveness

Pastor: In the name of Jesus Christ

People: We are forgiven.

Pastor: In our forgiveness, may we blossom fully with purpose and resolve, so that the world will know us by our love.

People: Amen.

†  Response #581 “Gloria Patri” Greatorex

Passing of the Peace   (Socially distant please)

Pastor: Peace is a sure sign of the presence of God. A peace we cannot find in this world. It is a gift from God intended to be shared. May the peace of God be with you.

People: And also with you.

First Scripture Reading:

The Liturgist reads the first Scripture lesson with feeling, conveying how characters felt.

Our first Scripture lesson this morning is from the Gospel of Matthew, beginning in the 19th chapter at the 13th verse.

Hear now a word from the Lord.

Psalm 4, a psalm of David

Pastor: This is the word of the Lord,

People: Thanks be to God.

Children’s Time  “Becoming Like Your Parents”

Anthem

Second Scripture Reading:

1 John 3:1-7

Pastor: This is the word of the Lord,

People: Thanks be to God.

Sermon   “An Identity Crisis”   Pastor John

Affirmation of Faith     In Unison

Pastor: We believe in God
People: Whose love we know in the beauty of his world, in daily bread, in the kindness of human hearts, and most clearly in Jesus of Nazareth.
Pastor: We believe that Jesus is the Christ
People: Whose touch of grace makes our eyes to see, our ears to hear, strengthens us to do all things in him, and delivers us from death to life.
Pastor: We believe in the Holy Spirit
People: In whose power there is peace, in whose presence there is joy, and in whose promise we dare to be more.

Hymn 215   “What Wondrous Love Is This”

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

Offering Our Gifts and Our Lives To God, Offertory

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Hymn 722   “Lord, Speak to Me That I May Speak”

During the last verse, the ushers will return and retrieve the Bible and the Light. They will wait at the bottom of the steps until the Benediction has been pronounced.

The Liturgist will stand beside the Pastor during the Benediction then recess with him during the Postlude.

Benediction

Pastor: May we go in grace and peace to be the hands and feet of Jesus

People: To touch a broken world.

Pastor: May we go in grace and peace to love the world on behalf of Jesus,

People: To represent him to a broken world.

Pastor: May we go in grace and peace to discover the joy of joining the work of Jesus
