DearHeart!
How are you today?
What’s been keeping me together is my daily/weekly practice of moving my body. I have a nice mix of Yoga,Pranayama, Meditation, Pilates and Dance Class I’ve been dedicated to that for years now.
Many of the People of Color who have been on the frontlines for the fight to liberation have chosen Yoga + Meditation as a pathway to inner peace.
What a concept?!!People who are invested in liberation for marginalized folx commit to devotional practice via somatic healing. : )
( photo of me a few years ago in a yoga class at Fitness SF
w/THEE Angela Davis. I had JUST moved to California!)
“Angela Davis, revolutionary activist and philosopher, is a committed yogi. She began practicing in prison when a doctor working with the Black Panther Party passed along a book on yoga to help her deal with chronic headaches. The poses worked, and many years later Davis continues with her sun salutations.”

Not only was Eartha Kitt one of Hollywood’s first Black Femme Hollywood darlings but she drank White Women’s tears in her morning coffee. She also would credit yoga for keeping her happy and healthy....
I invite you to join me....

“For many people, the pandemic has meant changes in schedule, sleep, and eating habits — all factors that can tip someone over to triggering a migraine, says Hamilton. “For example, if you’re not going into the office, you may be going to bed and getting up at different times and sleeping too much or too little,” she says. Both sleep loss and oversleeping can trigger a headache, according to the American Migraine Foundation.
Changes in meal schedules and caffeine intake can be an issue too, according to Hamilton. She advises people to establish a regular routine for sleeping, eating, and exercising when you’re working from home. “It’s okay if that routine is not exactly the same as what you did before you worked from home; the idea is just to maintain it consistently,” she says. Hamilton suggests the following tips to reduce the likelihood of a migraine attack and improve your overall well-being”

“That means the solution will often involve stress-management techniques. And there’s plenty we can do to feel better:
Exercise. Even low- to moderate-intensity physical activity can help counteract stress-induced inflammation in the body. It can also increase neuronal connections in the brain.
Meditation and mindfulness. Research shows this can lead to positive, structural and functional changes in the brain.
Fostering social connections. Talking to family and friends, even virtually, or staring into a pet’s eyes can release a hormone that may counteract inflammation.
Learning something new. Whether it’s a formal class or taking up a casual hobby, learning supports brain plasticity, the ability to change and adapt as a result of experience, which can be protective against depression and other mental illness.”

“I have found it critical to accept what is (and isn’t) within my control—and then just do the best that I can. Ensuring that I keep up with certain practices, such as regular hydration and sustenance, is non-negotiable for me. And then I give myself a break. We can’t expect to maintain perfect stress levels, especially during a pandemic. We can just keep learning about our bodies, building our routines, and doing our best.”
