Expressions of Interest (EOIs) close today for 10 residential aged care places for sale in Adelaide's Metropolitan North aged care planning region (ACPR).

The places are existing approvals – not provisional approvals – and are being sold as vacated places, i.e. the places are no longer being used for residents. Sale is subject to Commonwealth Department of Health approval for the places to be moved to the site/s of the buyer’s choice. For a copy of the EOI form, please contact Isabelle on isabelle@underwoods.com.au.

EOIs sought by 5:00pm today - Friday 23 April 2021. Please call James Underwood 0419 765 001 for any assistance or to seek an extension to the EOI closing time.

Successful Applications for Approval to Provide Aged Care

JU&A remains heavily involved in preparing Approved Provider applications for both new and existing organisations to provide aged care – residential aged care and home care.

This week, we received notification from the Aged Care Quality & Safety Commission (the Commission) of another successful Application for approval to provide aged care with which we assisted. We had previously assisted this organisation to achieve approval to provide Government-funded home care packages and residential aged care under another entity. Whilst there were requests from the Commission to supply additional information for consideration, the requests were completed successfully and approval was granted within six months of the original submission date.

If you would like to speak with JU&A about how we may be able to assist you to obtain aged care approved provider status, please contact us today on

New Aged Care Claim for Financial Hardship Assistance Form

Services Australia has combined the Financial Hardship Assistance for Residential Aged Care (SA461) form and the Financial Hardship Assistance for Home Care and Residential Respite Care (SA462) form into one form - the Aged Care Claim for Financial Hardship Assistance (SA462) form. This new form is shorter and much simpler to complete and the old forms should no longer be used.

Financial Hardship can be claimed if an aged care recipient has:
- completed and lodged the Aged Care Calculation of your cost of care (SA486) form;
- has assets valued at less than the current threshold amount of $37,155.30 (excluding unrealisable assets);
- has not gifted more than $10,000 in the previous 12 months or more than $30,000 in the previous five years; and
- in the case of home care, started receiving care on or after 1 July 2014.

Applications to Receive the Higher Accommodation Supplement Amount

The higher accommodation supplement helps to pay for some of the costs of permanent resident accommodation. This higher rate applies to new or newly refurbished facilities and Providers can apply online or complete an application form. Providers with new homes built after 20 April 2012 do not need to apply. Services Australia will automatically pay this supplement on behalf of eligible residents. Providers with a new aged care home will receive their higher payment from the date the service was completed; providers with refurbished homes will receive their higher payment from the date the Government receives the application; and providers seeking pre-approval will receive the higher payment from when their refurbishment is completed.

A surprising number of the applications we assist clients with show that they have overlooked eligible expenditure items and qualified for eligibility for the increased supplement several years earlier. Unfortunately, retrospectivity is not available. Please get your eligibility checked as soon as you can.

JU&A is assisting clients around the country to apply to the Government to receive the higher accommodation supplement. If you wish to discuss your eligibility, please contact us today on (07) 3229 8955  or isabelle@underwoods.com.au.
