Celebrating Mother Nature
Friends,
With spring in full bloom, warmer weather and (mostly) sunny days all month long, April brings budding opportunities to explore California’s outdoor beauty in new ways. Home to Earth Day, April is also a time when I’m especially appreciative of the people who work every day to protect and preserve these irreplaceable spaces.
This is especially true of the California State Parks staff. On Earth Day – and the other 364 days of the year – these are the people who keep state parks and beaches accessible, healthy and open. Without us ever seeing, they take steps to ensure your parks are becoming more modern, climate-change resilient, and safe.

I’d like to invite you to join me in being an active participant in protecting the natural spaces around you. It could be as simple as picking up litter in your neighborhood or local park, recycling, or reducing plastic use. If you’re looking for a community cleanup, join California State Parks Foundation in April for Earth Day Climate Action to participate in a statewide virtual cleanup of state parks and open spaces. And for year-round volunteer opportunities, check out the California Climate Action Corps. They connect people with community climate action organizations that need volunteer support.
What small steps can you take to protect the outdoor places you love? Let us know on our Facebook page.
Wishing you and yours well,
Kindley
