Connecting to our neighbors, God, and the land, using sustainable agriculture to meet local hunger needs

The verse you probably don't know, but should

Earlier this year we thinned some excess bamboo from our backyard at home. One of our community garden friends, Ramsey, said he could do something with it.  And did he!  He built a greenhouse.  He made a great space to provide plants a warm start.  Ramsey also repurposed shelving discarded from a retail store to hold the plant boxes.  I was impressed at how much he could do reusing materials.

For many people gardening helps reawaken that feeling that everything is useful, and nothing is to be wasted.  Wood pallets become raised beds.  Vegetable table scraps become rich compost.  Milk cartons become seed trays.  Little examples that teach a big lesson.  Once, after creating enough food to feed 5,000 people, Jesus told his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." (John 6:12).  How did we miss that?

Earth Day is April 22.  Why not plan a trip with your children to the garden this Saturday as a family outing?  It will not be wasted.

Bee right Back

Some of you have asked abut the bees.  Brad Miln installed a replacement hive this week so hopefully we will be back on track with our bee hive of pollinators.  Thank you Brad!

This Saturday will be our first tomato planting day, along with our first squash, zucchini, and beans.  Gene will also some peppers herbs and (new this year) artichokes to plant!  And don't forget there is always weeding and mulching :).
