I posted recently that outside my office this week, someone was shouting xenophobic comments about how Asian women didn’t belong in government. I am grateful for the community support our office received but I want to denounce this kind of racism and harassment and let everyone who experiences this that you're not alone. Asian women do belong in government and in all places where decisions are made. It’s called representation. We must all stand up and speak out against racism, in all its forms. Hate has no place in BC. Stop Asian hate now.

Youth Employment Program
I'm beyond thrilled to share that we've launched a new $45 million youth employment program! Young people have faced incredible challenges this past year as the pandemic has drastically impacted the job market.
This new program will create jobs and provide opportunities for more than 5,000 young people in the in the growing tech sector, environment and natural resource fields. MLA Brittny Anderson was appointed as Special Advisor on Youth to the Premier which will provide a platform for young people to engage directly with the provincial government. Providing training and opportunities for young people and a voice in government as we recover from the pandemic is part of our plan to build an inclusive and sustainable pandemic recovery!

Residential School Demolition
I'm really grateful to share that a building that used to be a residential school in the remote British Columbia community of Lower Post will be demolished and replaced by a cultural centre. The Daylu Dene Council had no other option than to use a former residential school as an administrative building, meaning community members had to enter this site of past atrocities for work, and to access the post office and employment centre.
We are partnering with the federal government and the Daylua Dena Council to demolish a former residential school and build a cultural centre, something Indigenous leaders have been advocating for years. Tearing down the former residential school to build a community centre is an important step towards healing and profound symbol of reconciliation.

Circuit Breaker Relief Grant
I know that the recent change in public health orders is having a direct impact on people and their livelihoods in our community. That's why I wanted to let you all know that last week, our government unveiled the Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant. Affected businesses, including restaurants, bars, breweries, wineries, gyms, and fitness centres can receive up to $10,000 in one-time funding to help with expenses, as well as unexpected costs that resulted from the restrictions.
Applications for the Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant are now open, and we encourage all eligible businesses to apply at www.gov.bc.ca/business-relief.

CTS (Catching the Spirit Youth Society) Youth Camps
Day Camps:
- Purpose: To encourage youth to explore the outdoors and get connected with nature, each other, and themselves. Youth are encouraged to have fun, become better leaders, learn new outdoor skills and learn more about themselves.
- Who This is For: Day camps are for youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a passion for nature, who want to meet new people, and who want to develop their leadership skills.
- What Participants Will Do: Participants will hike, do community gardening, mural painting, invasive species pulls, eco walks, field trips, camp games, and so much more. - Location: The home base of CTS is at Picken House (6825 Cariboo Rd. Burnaby BC). Most day camps start at Picken House, but there are also four camp locations: Burnaby Lake Regional Park, Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Tynehead Regional Park and Capilano Regional Park.

Spirit Steward Program:
This is a FREE 3-day overnight camping experience for youth. These camps run every weekend during the summer months. In these camps, youth will develop important camping skills such as tent building, knot-tying, and cooking. In addition, participants will participate each weekend on a Stewardship Projects organized with the Partner organizations of CTS. These projects are great opportunities to give back to the community and learn about the environment that surrounds us.
- Purpose: The purpose of the Spirit Steward Program is to connect youth with our land, each other, and themselves. One of the main goals of these camps is for youth to have fun while developing their leadership skills and personal growth.
- Who These Camps Are For: These camps are for youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a passion for nature, who want to meet new people, and who want to work on their leadership skills.

Junior Youth Program (Ongoing)

Meetings:
- Weekly meetings for 1-2 hours
- Group size: 10-15 members junior youth ➔ lead by animators (facilitators of junior groups). Facilitators are called animators because they add joy and fun to group activities.
- Groups meet in a common space (e.g., community centre or library)
Benefits:
- In Junior Youth, participants read a variety of stories to develop various valuable skills, such as powers of expression, critical thinking skills, and comprehension skills.
- The stories are intended to help junior youth make positive decisions through exploring concepts like kindness, justice, and honesty.
- Other activities, such as arts, drama, and sports are also included in the program.

Youth Mentor (Ongoing)
The junior youth program trains teens and young adults (15-18) to mentor younger peers aged 11-14. The program helps 11-14 olds develop their language abilities, helps them excel in school, and encourages them to make positive changes in their communities. Youth mentors will create joyful environments and will guide the mentees using the curriculum designed by the program. This will be done through stories with meaningful themes, activities, arts, drama, and community service projects. This is a great opportunity for teens aged 15-18 who want to be involved in their communities. Each week, mentors will meet with their mentees for 2 hours. In these meetings, the mentors and mentees will go through lessons and activities, and build friendships.

Volunteers are asked to embrace creativity when filming their videos. Multiple videos may be recorded. All videos must be under 15 minutes long and friendly for all ages.

- Duties of the Gallery Attendant:
-Ensure that the gallery is presentable; open/close the Gallery on Saturdays
-Greet visitors with a friendly attitude, encourage visitors to sign the guest book; be an exemplary face for the gallery
-Follow COVID-19 protocols (wearing a mask inside the gallery, inform visitors of the protocols and control the flow of visitors inside the gallery, sanitize surfaces
-Tell visitors about upcoming events, answer questions the visitors have about the Gallery and current exhibits
-Make occasional sale/membership purchase
-Perform tasks around the gallery during down time
- Qualifications for this Position:
-Good communication skills in English (knowledge of other languages is also beneficial)
-Able to deal with a wide range of people; good interpersonal skills
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in the team
-Punctual, open minded, presentable experience
-Eagerness to learn about current exhibits and artists, and share your knowledge with visitors
-Available between 12 - 4 pm, Tuesdays - Sunday, 2 - 3 times a month
-Valuable contribution to/engagement with the Burnaby Arts Community

The Teen Group Chat is a program for youth who want to meet other members of the youth community, and practice English speaking skills. In the Chat, participants will play games, and discuss interesting topics in an amicable group setting. This program welcomes all English language learners.
