The Freedom of the streets team, led by Danielle van den Heuvel has won the KNAW science communication award. This prize is instituted by The Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science. 

The Freedom of the streets
Throughout history and across cultures, women are seen as destined for the home instead of the street. At the same time, in historic cities worldwide women ventured out regularly to shop, work, pray, and play. This research project investigates the relationship between women and the city street in a time when historians believe restrictions on female movement greatly intensified.

The J. Greshoff-prijs was awarded to Piet Gerbrandy for his essay collection Grondwater. ''Gerbrandy shows what reading poetry can and should be". Click here for more information and the jury report.

The Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (KNIR) provides scholarships to early career scholars who can benefit from a research stay in the academic hub of Rome. Rome’s many international research institutes, museums and libraries offer a vibrant academic climate fore specially Archaeology, Classics,  ArtHistory, History, Anthropology, Political Science, Museology and Heritage studies - and the Humanities  and Social Sciences at large. KNIR fellowship holders form an interdisciplinary, close-knit community, engaging in field and lab work, debates, workshops and excursions. Scholarships are open to (R)MA students, (prospective) PhD students and postdocs. Depending on the career stage and plan, the KNIR facilitates research stays from 2 up to 20 weeks.

The UvA Faculty of Humanities offers the Research Innovation and Sustainability (RIS) Fund that aims at supporting staff with research time in their career development and expanding their opportunities to conduct research. Through the RIS Fund staff can apply for temporary teaching release in order to have more time to write grant applications, or to finish one or more (substantial, strategic) publications so as to strengthen their track record for an upcoming grant application. Application deadline is 4 June 2021. The National Maritime Museum offers funding for research to stimulate scientific knowledge about the collection. The museum has one of the largest and most notable maritime collections in the world with approximately 400,000 objects, including paintings, models of ships, navigation instruments, and maps of the world. The next deadline is 1 June 2021. Read more
