The 2021 Ottawa Grassroots Festival (OGF) occurs entirely online over the weekend of April 23, Friday, through Sunday, April 25. Attendees of this year’s festival will be able to enjoy the weekend’s events virtually from the safety of their home or bubble.

The festival will be hosted on zoom, and OGF will be sharing tips and techniques on how to watch.

The Silent Auction - one of the most fun and popular features of the Festival - will be back in virtual form this year. We have a terrific selection of donated items - ranging from items to pamper yourself, beautify your home, and tickle your sweet tooth. The Silent Auction is a really important way to support the Festival - all of our performers are paid, and all of the funds raised will support the Festival and its artists.

The Auction site will be open from Saturday April 17th at 11:00 a.m. to Sunday April 25th at 5:00 p.m. Check out the items here: https://www.32auctions.com/GrassrootsAuction2021.

Ottawa Grassroots App
Designed by Algonquin College Student team Wins Showcase

Algonquin College had a showcase of student projects, the Virtual RE/ACTION Showcase, with entries from 75 student groups.

The student team that developed the Ottawa Grassroots Festival App was one of the final 5 who presented during the showcase, and also won!

The CTV news article starts with another project, and autonomous robot designed to dispense liquid, which can be used for projects such as de-icing driveways, or fertilizing lawns.

The video concludes with the declaration of the winner being the Ottawa Grassroots Festival App, along with the team behind it.

The Ottawa Grassroots Festival (OGF) is pleased to announce the second year collaboration with the Performing Arts Program at Algonquin College. This showcase, ACES (Algonquin College Entertainers Showcase) will have students in the Performing Arts program prepare a virtual variety of acts highlighting their talent and creativity and will be reviewed by a celebrity panel of judges. The top 3 will earn a spot in the OGF virtual lineup!

Although the festival will be live-streamed to your homes, we still need help from volunteers. If you are interested in joining our volunteer team, below are the key positions we are looking to fill.
  • Social media support – Follow, like, share & repeat!
  • “Help desk”
  • Chat monitors
  • Silent  Auction & Sponsors
  • Posters (put up posters in local stores)
  • Zoom assistance
  • Online accessibility
  • Community Outreach (phone calling) to seniors residences to let them know about the festival
Our volunteer coordinator this year is one of our longtime volunteers, Joni Feldman. To sign-up, complete the form via the Ottawa Grassroots Festival website. Joni will be in touch with registered volunteers in the coming weeks.

Tribute to Bob Nesbitt (1939-2012). Bob created countless opportunities for people to develop, learn, connect and celebrate through the teams, organizations and events he created. Bob led the Ottawa Folk Festival site construction crew for many, and founded the Ottawa Grassroots Festival in 2012. The entire Canadian Spaces show on April 10 will be a celebration of Bob's many gifts and contributions.

We are extremely grateful for all our sponsors. They ensure we have free daytime programming, which makes this festival affordable for young families to attend and sharing with the community is what we are all about. Without sponsor support, this would be an entirely different festival and it's safe to say, the OGF would not be possible!
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of Ottawa Grassroots Festival, please contact Alison Bowie

We graciously acknowledge the support in grant funding from the Government of Canada, Canadian Heritage and the City of Ottawa.
