Schools Reopening

Now that we have started the reopening of schools, I want to share information and videos with you that I hope will help answer any questions you may still have.

Vaccinations

Currently, LAUSD is finishing vaccination for employees. Soon, the District will open 25 school-based vaccination centers to serve school families in high need communities, as part of our continued efforts to reopen schools in the safest way possible. We will share information about centers serving our Valley communities, as soon as it becomes available.

To get a vaccination, you can still make an appointment through LA County Office of Public Health by clicking here.

If you still have concerns about vaccionation, I prepared these videos with Dr. Eloisa Gonzalez from LA County Health Department to help address your concerns. This article about how to talk to family and friends about the vaccine may be helpful to you.

Opportunities to Volunteer

Job Opportunity at LAUSD

At the Board of Education

Our first Special Education Committee was held on March 25, 2021. Our District staff discussed how they are preparing for a safe return to campus, this included interesting presentations regarding the services provided to students with disabilities during distance learning (including dyslexia supports), virtual Individualized Education Program meetings, in-person services, individual assessments and the professional development and support for teachers. Thank you to: Ms. Krista Muscarella, School Psychologist, Local District West; Mr. Danny Mulia, Principal, Monlux ES STEM Magnet; and Ms. Maryann Sullivan, Division of Special Education. Also Ms. Lisa Mosko, Community Advisory Committee Chairperson, reported on the March 17, 2021 CAC meeting and shared comments from CAC members regarding the reopening of schools and feedback on the Local Plan.

The Board of Education approved the following investments in schools in Board District 3.

Academy for Enriched Sciences Elementary Magnet - outdoor STEAM Lab classroom
Carpenter Community Charter ES - 2 hydration stations
Castlebay Lane Charter ES - secure entry system
Hart St ES - 2 pedestrian gates + 4 Promethean Boards
Emelita ES - secure entry system

Civic Engagement Resolution

At the Board Meeting on April 14th, the Board of Education will vote on my Civic Engagement resolution. If passed, all LAUSD juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to earn the State Seal of Civic Engagement, beginning in the 2021-22 school year.
