We have reached the exciting part of the term for our students and teachers. No, it is not the approaching term break! It is the Celebration of Learning to be held Thursday, April 15 starting at 9.15 a.m. and ending with a shared morning tea.
All classrooms will be open for viewing. Every student will have something to share and talk to you about. There are opportunities for you to hear about the retelling of the local legends. These re-telling’s take many forms. They are interactive and engaging. We invite all parents to walk in and out of every classroom and see the variety of learning experiences offered.
For morning tea you are welcome to collect a hot or cold drink from the staffroom and then share from your child lunch box their morning tea. This is not a time to bring a shared plate. The Celebration of Learning is a time for families to engage in the learning for the term.
I would like to acknowledge our Enviro group and their work towards obtaining the Green Gold award. You may have seen the comprehensive article about the work of our students in the Weekender. This article showcased the school and the effort involved to achieve this award for the second time.
Next term I will be on sabbatical. This means that I will be away from school until the start of term three. Jenna Foley will be acting principal in my absence. Claire Smith will also be available to assist you with any inquiries. School will continue as normal. Learning is still our priority.
At the end of this week, two of our classes will be moving spaces. Whaea Angel and Room 9 will move next door to Room 10 and Mrs Green and Room 16 will move to Room 9. This is to accommodate our expected new entrant enrolments for the remainder of 2021 in Rooms 15 & 16.
We will be starting term two with our powhiri at 9.10 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021.
All parents are invited to attend.
Parent teacher discussion will take place on Thursday, May 20. We use an online booking system for families to make an appointment. Please use this link to make an appointment.
Our parent teacher discussions start at 12.30 p.m. and finish at 6 p.m. Each discussion is 10 minutes long, and we invite your child to attend these discussions. If you are unable to make a booking please contact the school office.
Our next concept for learning is called ‘In Your Own Words”. This is an exciting concept filled with language and entertainment. By the end of the concept all students will have shared a poem, speech or flash talk. There will be a Celebration of Learning day held in the last week of term two.
The result of the board election has been completed. We welcome and congratulate Chris Berriman to the Wairakei Primary Board of Trustees. Chris will take office at the May board meeting.
I hope you all have a quiet and restful term break and enjoy the time with family and friends. I will enjoy hearing about you all learning adventures and seeing students work in our blog posts.
