Creative for Conservation
With much excitement, Willie Sonnenberg and Dan Sonnenberg (wildlife enthusiasts and members of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve), have recently launched their new website Sand Rivers which showcases Willie’s African wildlife and landscape paintings as well as both of their incredible photographs.

If you are the ultimate Timbavati fan or long-lived Timbavati legend, you’ll probably recognise the settings and creatures as many of them are painted from scenes in the reserve.
Original paintings, limited edition prints of paintings, and prints of photographs are available for sale through their website. Should you make a purchase, a percentage (7.5%) of each sale will be donated to the Timbavati to support the reserve and its wildlife.

This is one way of having the beauty of the Timbavati within your own home and knowing you have contributed to the support of this beautiful reserve.

The first blog on Sand Rivers - https://sandrivers.co.za/observations/ - features one of Africa's most beautiful creatures - the African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus).

Have you ever dreamt of running in the wilds of the African bush surrounded by nature in all her glory? Who says dreams cannot come true…?
The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is proud to announce the hosting of its first-ever 45km Ultra Marathon event within the reserve in support of wildlife conservation on the 17th of July 2021.
This unique and prestigious opportunity will be run all in the name of conservation with all proceeds going to the protection and security of our wildlife with a focus upon our rhinos.

Keen to participate? Unfortunately (fortunately for us) all 20 spaces have been filled! However, based on the successes of this year's run, we are sure to be having another event like this next year 2022.

If you are a sign-up and confirmed runner for this year's Timbavati Traverse then start gathering your friends and family to start sponsoring you! The runner that raises the most funds will win a 2-night stay at
Kings Camp Lodge for 2 persons valued at R52 000,00! (T’S & C’S APPLY). Even if you are not participating in this year's event, you are still welcome to make a donation directly towards the cause through this platform.
Check out our GivenGain Page to start fundraising and supporting!

Security Matters

Security technology
The Timbavati has recently moved onto a new platform called Earth Ranger. It aims to monitor all the technology deployed throughout our reserve.  This platform was kindly donated to the Timbavati, at zero cost by an organisation based in the USA called Wildlife Protection Solutions (WPS).  The platform allows all our technologies to be channeled through a single automated dashboard, which allows us to seamlessly monitor aspects such as field ranger movements, fence alarms and camera systems, all at real-time in the Operations Room based at the Headquarters.

The entire camera trap unit, including the solar/battery setup costs R 7500.00.  If any member or family and friends would be interested in possibly donating funds for a unit or 2 to the Timbavati, please contact us.

Timbavati will issue a section 18A for any funds donated towards camera traps.

Timbavati Foundation Bursaries

South African College for Tourism:
We are so extremely proud of our two young candidates who completed their hospitality Training course at the
SA College for Tourism at the end of 2020. Both candidates now are taking the next step in further expanding their knowledge for another year at the College.
A special mention of Allen Ncube who received the Golden Spoon award which highlighted his achievements in the culinary kitchen. Master Chef in the making.

Some words from Allen:
"The part that I enjoyed the most was culinary because it is where my passion is at. I enjoyed cooking even when we had to do it in groups, we managed to impress the chef with our plating creativity. I’d like to give great thanks to Timbavati Foundation for making the dream come to a reality. I must say that I have learned a lot, being around different people with more morals of respect, and gave me motivation and inspiration to do better."

We can only thank the SA College of Tourism for their fantastic partnership. Their dedication to our youth is commendable. Well done Allen and Lebone, you have made us so proud.

Timbavati Foundation Bursaries

Tracker Academy:
Our two selected bursary candidates who headed off to the Tracker Academy in 2020 are doing exceptionally well! Both Tshegofatsho and Themba are excelling in their newfound passions soon to be taking on the world of conservation & tourism.

We cannot wait to see them grow into this exciting field and become wildlife ambassadors for South Africa.
A BIG thank you goes to the Tracker Academy who year after year supports these young passionate individuals to fulfill their dreams. The Timbavati Foundation is a proud partner!

Environmental Education Outreach Program

Our new & improved environmental education outreach program is due to kick off in the second schooling term! We have joined hands with the Global Conservation Corps to assist us in the monitoring and evaluation of our new and improved outreach program. The application which will be used to monitor these activities aims to keep a building portfolio of every child that receives environmental education by us or other partners who undertake this. We hope that through this outreach we can inspire and create a passion for conservation in young minds.

Wishlist Wednesdays & Donations:

Let's get digital, digital!
With the modern world moving more into the cloud space and into digital thinking, we need to ensure that our rural communities are not left behind. These four tablets may just be the start of a new transformation within our environmental outreach program, please consider donating to this worthy cause.

Let us talk, educate and appreciate water today.
The actual value of water is much more than just its economic value – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, wildlife, and the integrity of our natural environment. If we overlook these values, we risk overutilizing and mismanaging this irreplaceable resource. We need to take responsibility to use it sustainably.
