Multi-Lingual Resources
Imagine that one of your family members has received a tough diagnosis, such as dementia or cancer. What cultural stigmas and challenges exist with such a diagnosis? Adding to the challenge, your family may not be able to read or write in their own language, let alone English. You are one of only two English speakers in your home, and your skills are limited, certainly not advanced enough to read medical paperwork. You are also the main bread winner, so you are at work up to 6 days a week.
Between the long work hours, English studies, medical documents, and the language and cultural issues, you feel completely overwhelmed and depleted. You tell yourself that this will all be worth it someday—that someday your children will have a better life. But, how do you get through today? Today, you just need compassionate help and someone who understands your limited time, abilities, and energy reserves.
Find multi-lingual resources and more information in the Caregiver News. Other resources may be found on the Community Health Workers website.
