Dear <<First Name>>,
Although we're already a few months into the new year, it seems every month that a new year is starting. I hope you're safe and healthy, and looking forward to a renewal in 2021.
In 2020 we conducted an abbreviated sampling season on the Roe Jan, collecting samples for just four months. This year we plan to resume a full schedule of collecting six samples, monthly May through October. Here are the dates:
|
|
Sat. May 15th
Sat. June 12th
Sat. July 10th
|
|
Sat. Aug 14th
Sat. Sept 11th
Sat. Oct 9th

Like last year, we are looking for sampling volunteers who are in the same household (pod), and we need one pair for upstream and one for downstream, on each of these dates. If COVID conditions improve it's possible that later in the year we will be able to relax the 'same household' rule. Sampling takes a whole Saturday morning, but it can be a wonderful experience to be out on the stream, exploring new sites, and helping to create a greater understanding of the Roe Jan. Please write to Kaare@RoeJanWatershed.org if you'd like more info, or would like to volunteer. We'll have a brief Zoom training session prior to sampling.

Speaking of a greater understanding, this year we're adding additional parameters to our sampling. At selected locations and on specific dates, we're going to be sampling for nutrients (Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate, Chloride, and Sulfate) and also for trace metals (Arsenic, Mercury, Copper, Lead, Selenium, Iron and more). This new information will augment the understanding that we already have from our sampling for Enterococcus and other measurements.
Please stay safe and healthy.
Kaare
