Hey there, sports fans!

This week in sports, the Hornets baseball team claimed 3 of 4 wins in its series run against New Mexico State. Sac State's women's soccer team won its second to last game of the season, making it their first win since February but not their last. Also, Sac State's softball team dropped the ball in all three of its home games against Weber State this weekend. Finally, a rugby player reflects on his team's lost spot at nationals after COVID-19 cut short many-a-season for Sac State athletes and more. 

Hornets baseball team takes series versus New Mexico State

Sac State defeated New Mexico State April 11, claiming an overall series win with 3 of 4 games taken by the Hornets. 

On top of it being the team's fourth series win in a row, the victory also came just a week after the Hornets were ranked 24th place in the Division I Collegiate Baseball rankings, becoming the first Sac State baseball team to do so in the school's history.

Women’s soccer team wins first game since February

In the 51st minute of the game, the Hornets managed to score the eventual game winning goal claiming their first victory since February and beating Portland State 1-0, on Friday, April 9. 

The weekend, the women's soccer regular season was rounded off with another win for the Hornets against the Vikings at Portland State on Sunday, April 11. The game was won in double overtime on the back of two penalty kicks that netted the Hornets a 2-0 win, according to Sac State Athletics

Sac State softball gets swept in series against Weber State

The Hornets, previously undefeated in the Big Sky Conference, lost both games in their double-header against Weber State at Sac State on Friday, April 9. The first game's score totaled 5-4 and 10-9 in the second.

The losses continued into Saturday with the Wildcats making out with a 4-0 win against the Hornets.

Senior defender Aubrey Goodwill was awarded her second "Defender of the Week" accolade this year by the Big Sky Conference after she scored two goals for Sac State against Portland State on Sunday, April 11. 

Having kicked two penalty shots into the net in double-overtime, Goodwill not only claimed victory for the Hornets 2-1 but also garnered herself her first career brace. Betting on Goodwill's talents in this case had precedent, as all three of her goals this season have been accomplished through penalty kicks.
