Hello API Chaya community,

API Chaya's gala is less than two weeks away, on Saturday, April 24th, 6-8pm.

There will be a 30 minute Cocktail Reception with a Staff Q&A, followed by a live program featuring stories from API Chaya’s clients and staff, cultural performances, fund-a-need games, keynote speaker Tani Ikeda who founded Survivor Love Letter, and more. Founding members Sarah Rizvi and Alice Ryan will be our co-hosts, sharing about building Chaya and the Safety Center. We would love to see you there, to stay connected to API Chaya and to see the direct impact of your dollars on our communities!

Speakers & Performers: Tarul Kode Tripathi, Board Chair; Kalayo Pestaño & Priya Rai, Co-Directors; Jordan Faralan, Performer; Dakota Camacho, Artistic Director UNITY Film Project; Billy & Alice, Survivor Keynotes. Featuring UNITY Film Project: API Chaya's UNITY Film Project engages dance, song, and poetry to creatively explore themes of facing crisis, healing, & transformation. The project weaves together four distinct cultural worldviews that represent various experiences within our Pacific Islander and Asian communities. Each of the speakers has a circular photo above their name and title.

Tani Ikeda is a filmmaker, writer, and activist whose work centers on the feminine experience. She is the primary director for the 2017 Emmy winning documentary series, “Wonder Women” and is an Executive Producer and Director for the Documentary Series “Resist” with BLM co­founder Patrisse Cullors which premieres October 2020 through YouTube’s Black Voices series. Film Independent named Ikeda one of 33 Emerging Filmmakers to watch. She is a Project Involve Directors Fellow, an essayist in the 2020 Anthology “Believe Me: How Trusting Women Can Change The World,” a 2019 Artist in Residence at Stanford University’s Institute for Diversity in the Arts, a 2018 Sundance Fellow and a 2018 SF Film Screenwriting Fellow. Ikeda also creates VR murals that spread love letters to survivors of sexual assault through imMEDIAte Justice, a nonprofit she co­founded in 2007 that trains young women of color in digital media.
