Synod Art Project

Artist Focus: Wendy Thiele

Meeting God in the Bush
Art Quilt: Size 40x30 cm
Vintage Japanese Kimono Fabrics

We lived in Pt Augusta for 5 years and travelled to small churches in the area with my husband who is a lay preacher.
The land can be harsh, as only arid and semi desert lands can be. The congregations of the faithful we visited were like highlights of colour like those of flowering desert plants.
It was these visits to remote communities of our arid lands that gave me inspiration for this little piece. I saw and found God’s faith and vibrancy in action in these bush communities. We were welcomed and ministered to as much as we ministered to them.
An often forgotten people of our Uniting Community, people of faith, inspiring faith and caring for our bush people and land. Our faithful bush people are represented here in this piece.

Music and Worship

Music has always played a role in worship, from the Israelites living in Exile to the Psalms to the church gathering together in Colossae to Gregorian chant to Wesleyan hymns to the pop rock of Hillsong, singing and music has been a way for people to meet with and offer praise and prayer to God.
Music is important in worship, it can enliven and deepen worship, and it can do the opposite. What we sing shapes our theology and our knowledge of God.
This full-day workshop will enable church musicians to gather together to engage in conversation, share experiences and ideas and resources. It offers an opportunity for church musicians to contemplate the how and why of having music in worship and their own practise.

More details will be available closer to the event.

President's Conference

Called by God - living our Christian vocation in our daily life

 29 April-2 May, 2021

U-City: 43 Franklin Street, Adelaide

The theme of the conference is Christian vocation. One of the core themes of the Uniting Church is “every member ministry”. We will explore what this looks like in its many forms, from local churches through to Uniting Church agencies and schools through to faithful people serving in and living out their Christian discipleship in their relationships, families, communities and daily life. The Centre will be shaping worship for this UCA Assembly conference.
