NEW RESOURCES FOR AGENTS AS GOVT TALKS CONTINUE

Hello <<First Name>>

Important discussions with government are continuing this week in both Australia and New Zealand, as CLIA and cruise lines push for an urgent pathway forward for our industry.

Working across multiple government agencies and different ministries, this is a complex process and involves detailed discussions. Though we might not expect any significant announcements immediately, we are applying pressure wherever possible and continue to warn of the devastating costs our communities are enduring while cruise tourism is suspended.
To help travel agents and other stakeholders reinforce our message, CLIA this week refreshed and expanded its #WeAreCruise pages, which include a new fact sheet on our Model for Responsible Sailing. This guide explains the extensive health measures cruise lines have adopted globally and our vision for their implementation in Australia and New Zealand, beginning initially with carefully controlled domestic sailings. Visit WeAreCruise.org to find out more.
CLIA and our supporters have also been busy in the media this week, appearing on television, radio and in print to highlight the urgent need for a path forward. In Australia this has included Sunrise and Today, and in New Zealand TVNZ.

CLIA is planning other initiatives to raise our voice and be heard in Wellington and Canberra, and we’ll tell you more soon. In the meantime, visit our Facebook and LinkedIn pages to see some of our latest news and help share our messages in your own communities.

Stay safe,

Joel Katz
Managing Director, CLIA Australasia

COVID-19 UPDATE

Applications for Round Two of the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Consumer Travel Support Program have opened, providing $130 million in support for eligible travel agents, inbound tour operators and tour wholesalers.

Under Round Two, eligible travel agents and tour operators who have received a payment under Round One may be entitled to a second payment, ranging between $7,500 and $100,000. To be eligible the business must:
  • Have been operating a travel agent, inbound tour operator or tour wholesaler business prior to the announcement of the closure of international borders, and are continuing to operate that business;
  • Have a turnover of between $50,000 and $20 million (or between $500,000 and $200 million Total Transaction Value - TTV) for the 2019 calendar year; and
  • Have been in receipt of the JobKeeper extension (28 September 2020 to 28 March 2021).
Businesses found to have received a payment based on TTV in Round One that was greater than they would otherwise have received if the payments for Round One and Two were calculated on turnover, will not be eligible for a Round Two payment.

Get on board for our Ocean Debut Virtual Showcase

Monday 10 - Friday 14 May 2021

As the industry works to achieve resumption in destinations around the world, cruise lines are preparing to unveil a succession of spectacular new ships that will help re-energize cruising and offer exciting new experiences for guests.

To highlight the wealth of new cruise ships ready to launch and help drive our industry’s recovery, CLIA Australasia is launching its first-ever Ocean Debut Showcase, a week-long virtual event.

Running each weekday between Monday 10 and Friday 14 May 2021, the showcase will provide travel agents with valuable information about the latest ships and all their new features. Each ship will be profiled in detail, covering ship facts; dining, entertainment and accommodation options; public spaces; new innovative features and designs; and what type of experience guests can expect when they step on board.

Participants will earn three CLIA Accreditation points by completing a short post-event quiz for each cruise line presentation they attend live. In addition, there are five fabulous prize packs to be won, simply by collecting the codeword given during each live session.

To get involved, browse the full schedule of presentations below and register for your preferred sessions. More information on each of the new ships featured in the showcase can be found here.
