Green Spine Update
Works Notification Email: 15th April 2021

The Green Spine is bringing nature to your doorstep. Trees, plants, play areas and quiet spots for the whole community to enjoy.

Summary of the Week

We have completed the Salisbury Street carriageway and the paving outside The Traders Inn Pub has been cleaned, protected and opened. Some fencing remains around the junction itself to direct pedestrians and to secure some small uncompleted areas of works.

This Fortnight

  • The southern side of Salisbury Street was re-opened to vehicles after the pavement cleaning and protecting process was completed. Some fencing will remain on the south west corner (outside Habaybna) and south east corner (outside Westbury Supermarket) as we need to carry out pavement works.
  • The second of the two shafts in the Salisbury Street carriageway have been completed and filled (between Whitehaven Street and Broadley Street).
  • We have excavated the eastern footway between No.34 and Morris House towards Samford Street, and have begun to install new kerbs in front of Morris House (this includes kerbs for the new rain gardens).
  • On the western footway, we have continued to lay kerbs and pave around the northern side of the toilet block, inlcuding the tree (outside no.54 Love Venezia Cafe).
  • Two bollards have been installed on the new kerb edge on the northern side of the toilet block.
  • In Lisson Street Gardens, we have continued to raise the level in the sunken area and will continue to build the retaining walls.

Next Fortnight

We will continue to work on the new pavements north from Church Street towards Samford Street outside Wey House and Morris House, this includes:
  • Completing the kerb outside No.34
  • New drainage connections for rain gardens to be excavated outside Morris House
  • New signal sockets to be installed and existing utilities covers to be raised
  • Paving will start
On the western footway:
  • The area will be prepared in advance of new kerb installation outside Wey House towards Samford Street
  • Excavation works will start between Church Street and Broadley Street towards the end of the week. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the noise of the excavation (noisy works may take place from 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday and 8:00am - 1:00pm Saturday).

In Lisson Street Gardens, we will finish building the gabion basket walls and start the concrete retaining walls.

Other

Trader parking and blue lined market pitches
Please be advised that parking on double yellow lines is not permitted. These are new footway areas and the blue markings are market stall locations - not parking. If you have any queries contact us by email, or to speak to our Public Liaison Officer Bob Burton.

Basement
Please read carefully if your property is within the works area. The basement / vault to your property is a separate structure from the public highway and keeping it in a watertight condition is the responsibility of the owner or freeholder. Therefore, make sure your vault/basement is well tanked. If the vault / basement has not been properly damp proofed and / or tanked it is not secure from water ingress. Please be advised that neither the Service Provider or the City Council will be responsible for any damage resulting from water ingress in such circumstances.

Rubbish
The Cleansing & Waste team at Westminster City Council have confirmed that the Green Spine won’t impact the ability to collect the rubbish or recycling. If you do experience any difficulties, please report it here.

Noise, dust and disruption
Our Programming and Construction Team work hard to minimise noise, dust and disruption as much as possible, and we thank you for your patience.

Pedestrian access
Pedestrian access to all businesses and buildings will be maintained at all times.

Working hours
Standard working hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday. We occasionally have some programmed early morning works, and occasionally Sunday working may be required. However, this is only in exceptional circumstances.

Contact us
If you have any concerns while works are taking place, please contact the Site Supervisor or the Public Liaison Officer, Bob Burton. Due to COVID-19/coronavirus, Bob may not be on-site, but can be contacted on his mobile.
