Depicting Diversity video

dlr Libraries are delighted to share this joyful video entitled Depicting Diversity. It gives a flavour of this important initiative which is funded by Creative Ireland and which arose out of the Black Lives Matter movement. Artist Mags Harnett conceived and co-ordinated the project in close partnership with dlr Libraries and the National Gallery of Ireland, with additional resources from Children's Books Ireland.

Towards the end of last year, Mags worked with a range of primary schools in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and we're now inviting more schools to join in the fun for the final term before Summer. If you are a teacher of 4th-6th classes, don't miss this opportunity for a limited number of workshops in May-June. Each participating school will receive a pack which includes books and art materials from dlr Libraries and resources from the National Gallery of Ireland and Children’s Books Ireland.

Booking essential by emailing dlrlexiconlib@dlrcoco.ie and further details here.

Michael Lee and dlr LexIcon

Congratulations to Michael Lee on his wonderful painting Dún Laoghaire and dlr LexIcon from East Pier which was acquired recently by dlr LexIcon. Michael entered dlr Libraries' competition to Design a dlr Postcard Competition with this work.
The competition was part of the What's in a Name: Decade of Centenaries initiative where we celebrated the centenary of the name change from Kingstown to Dún Laoghaire in 1920. Michael won first prize for his stunning painting featuring the sweeping view of Dún Laoghaire spires, terraces, the National Yacht Club and the iconic dlr LexIcon - all viewed from the much-loved East Pier.

When dlr Libraries re-open, we will have free printed postcards of all the winning entries, including Michael's postcard, available in all branch libraries. Click here for further details.

Fake News and Media Literacy

Congratulations to Erika Csibi, staff member at dlr LexIcon on her excellent article in the current An Leabharlann, click here (page 24) It is a particularly vital subject worldwide at present. Who can we trust in an era of fake news?

The article brings together all of Erika’s work on the Media Literacy series Disinformation, Fake News & Privacy that ran throughout the autumn and is ongoing with schools. See the various videos, webinar links here.

Well done Erika and may it be the first of many such articles!
