Greetings from our team at the the University of Saskatchewan (USask)!
We hope to see you, your students and parents at our upcoming virtual meet-ups leading up to the May 1 application deadline for many USask programs.
In this issue, we share info about Learning Communities, which for some students are a mandatory requirement as part of their programs.
In April, we'll keep running our weekly Q&As. There will be more upcoming information sessions about our programs, and application and admission processes. Given the success of our new USASKSparks webinars, we'll keep offering them in May, too. If your students don't know yet what field interests them, or which university program to apply for, USASKSparks is what they need! We'll also have application workshops for special categories of students (see more info below).
Also, watch your email for information about our online U-Start pre-orientation sessions (May 15-June 10). At U-Start, we'll teach admitted students how to register for classes and how to access resources for a stress-free transition to university.
As always, please let us know what you need in your role to support prospective students as they consider their futures and post-secondary education opportunities at USask. From all of us here at USask, thank you for all you do.

May 1 application deadline
May 1 is the deadline for Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international applicants to apply for admission to:
May 1 is also the deadline for international applicants to apply for admission to programs in the College of Arts and Science.
While the deadline for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to apply for admission to the College of Arts and Science is August 15, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since class registration opens in June.

Joint admission
Students who do not meet USask's English language proficiency requirement are encouraged to apply for joint admission to their degree program of choice and our English for Academic Purposes program. The deadline to apply for joint admission for the 2021 Fall Term is July 15; however, we encourage students to apply early.

Learning Communities
Joining a Learning Community (LC) offered in the Colleges of Agriculture and Bioresources, Arts and Science, Education and Kinesiology is one of the most beneficial choices new students can make when starting university.
In an LC, new students can:
- connect with students, alumni, professors and professionals who share common interests and/or goals – an academic social network!
- access mentorship and support from successful, senior students (i.e., Peer Mentors) and recent graduates from USask.
- develop the skills to adapt to university expectations and campus life and succeed in their new academic environment.
Important dates:
April 1 - Sign-up opens for Indigenous Student Achievement Pathways First-Year LCs in the College of Arts and Science
May 3 – June 9 - Sign-up period open for:
June 12 - First-year Education students and students entering the Kinesiology/Education Combined Program have to register for Education LCs as part of their program requirements along with their other classes.
Students are encouraged to browse Learning Community options online and speak to an academic advisor in their college.

USaskSparks: lighting up career discovery
Thanks to your support, our webinars have been a great success with students in grades 10 to 12, so we're extending the offering of these events until the end of May.
As part of our webinars students will:
- Think about solving real-world challenges
- Learn about USask degrees tackling those challenges
- Start planning for their careers early
- Think locally and globally
During our webinars, students will interact with SparkPath "challenge cards," and choose the top 3 real-world problems they'd like to solve. They will be directed to careers and industries that tackle those challenges. Based on their results, we can share with students the wide range of USask degrees that will help them solve global problems and become what the world needs.

U-Start: Coming Soon!
We'll host online U-Start events in May and June to help newly admitted USask students get ready for their next important post-secondary milestone: class registration!
At U-Start, students will learn:
- how to choose and register for classes,
- how to get a head start,
- where to get help, and
- what they need to know before September.
Stay tuned! We'll share more info in you inbox and will update our U-Start website soon with this year's sessions.
In the meantime, students attending USask this year can find resources on our new students website.

Drop-in Q&A Wednesdays
Did you know students can book a 20-minute appointment with a USask recruitment officer to answer any questions about admission requirements, scholarships, housing and more?
Appointments are available for students interested in applying to undergraduate programs in the Colleges of Agriculture and Bioresources, Arts and Science, Education, Engineering, Kinesiology and Edwards School of Business.
