Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 Vaccine

You have probably heard about the halt that the FDA has put on using JnJ vaccines for Covid-19 in this country due to the reports of 6 blood clots in women aged 18-48. One of these women died and 1 was hospitalized.

Please do not panic if you have received this vaccine and do not, at this time, rule out getting it in the future.

If this turns out to be a vaccine-related adverse event, it will have taken place in less than 1 in 1 million shots given. To put this in perspective, the risk of similar blood clotting in young women on oral contraceptive pills is 3-6 per 10,000 women. The risks and benefits of vaccines need to be discussed and then a decision made on the basis of the scientific facts and the risk profile of the patient.

It seems so far that these adverse events happened exclusively to younger women, aged 18-48. The pause in administration of the vaccine and the dissemination of factual information are results of the efforts of the FDA to be transparent and safe with these vaccines. This transparency of the risks and benefits of the Covid-19 vaccines is the system working as intended.

If you are a woman, aged 18-48 and you are within 3 weeks of receiving the JnJ Covid vaccine and you are having any chest pain, shortness of breath, leg pain or swelling or severe headaches, please see your doctor or go the ER for evaluation.

Please stay tuned and we at TVP will be speaking more about this as this vaccine and the others are approved for our patient population.

TVP Covid-19 Vaccination Plan

We at TVP are in the queue for receiving Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. As the vaccine has been made widely available in our community to all adults (and teens >16), we are waiting to get our allotted supply until Moderna and/or Pfizer vaccines are approved (via Emergency Use Authorization) for children aged 12-15. We will notify our families and patients when this happens and when we will start scheduling. Our recommendations for vaccination of all age groups that receive approval from the FDA has not changed. Please set up an appointment with your primary doctor if you have any concerns or questions regarding the Covid-19 vaccines.

Please remember that copays are due at the time of service. You can pay electronically via the appointment curbside check in text you receive at the time of your appointment or in-person at our front desk manned by our vaccinated staff! Thank you!
