Simsbury Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting
Thurs., April 15, 2021, 10 - 11 AM

Zoom Meeting - see
 AGENDA for link

Join us for 2021 planning of bike/walk advocacy initiatives and events.
Because no one sees roadside litter like bicyclists and pedestrians, please give a little of your time to make riding in Simsbury more beautiful.  Look for Rep. Hampton's Facebook event for more info.
Green up your commute by biking all or part-way to work at least once during the weeks of Earth Day (4/22) and Bike to Work Day (5/21).  For people working in Hartford, bike to a commuter lot and take CT Transit . CTRides and Simsbury.bike have many resources to share. Already commute by bike? Keep up the good work and share some encouraging words at the office.

May 1 - September 30

The popular Simsbury Bike Challenge (SBC), part of the National Bike Challenge (NBC), kicks off Bike Month. Participants log rides, work toward personal goals, and compete for prizes and awards in an online community. It’s a great way to meet other local cyclists, track your progress, and support local and national bike advocacy efforts. Adults and teens can sign up now for the NBC on the Love to Ride app at http://www.lovetoride.net/usa.  Simsbury residents, and those who work, volunteer, or bike in Simsbury can then join the Simsbury.Bike group to enroll in the SBC. It’s fun, and its free! Ride anywhere, any distance, any frequency, then make your rides count! Learn more.

JOIN SIMSBURY BIKE CHALLENGE
Simsbury.Bike has logged over 400,000 miles since 2015.
Riders may participate in the NBC as an individual or join a group for extra motivation and fun. Connecticut teams include Simsbury.Bike, CT LCI's, CT Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP), and Bike New Britain.  If you don't see your local bike club or advocacy group, start a group today!
 Bike Walk Canton CT
Bike Walk Canton CT has a new website thanks to web developer Betsy Minton. The group will be meeting Mon, April 19 at 6 PM to discuss future advocacy work, the 2019 Bike Friendly Community report card, and growth of the group. A short bike ride will follow if time allows. The group will meet at the gazebo along the bike path between the Canton town garage and the flower bridge along River Road. Please follow established quarantine protocols if you are able to attend. Check out the new website  and use the Contact Us link to be added to the Bike Walk Canton CT email list.  www.bikewalkcantonct.org
Trail Crossing Safety
The pedestrian-activated FLASHING amber lights on Stratton Brook Rd. at the Farmington River Trail crossing/Town Forest Rd. have been installed. Thank you, Simsbury Department of Public Works, for this important safety improvement for walkers and bikers. Motorists, please remember to be extra alert at popular trail crossings and be prepared to stop when people are crossing or waiting to cross. Pedestrians and bicyclists, please use the buttons to activate the lights and wait until all traffic has stopped before entering the roadway.
