The next Special Planning Committee meeting to consider the first draft of the revised Official Plan, will be on Friday, April 16, at 9:00 am. This will be a virtual meeting, and will be available on the TML YouTube channel, where you can watch live, or view the recorded meeting at a later date.
This meeting promises to be particularly important in terms of our campaign to stop the proposed Lippa quarry, as it will include a discussion about draft policies related to the siting of Aggregate Extraction Operations, such as pits and quarries. Concerns have already been raised about the need to make changes to policies in the draft Official Plan, that would provide greater protection for the lakes, rivers, and their watersheds, under threat from these operations.
The lakes and rivers within the Township of Muskoka Lakes are renowned throughout Ontario, and beyond, bringing many economic benefits, as well as responsibilities, to local residents and their elected representatives. The policies in the new Official Plan should reflect the importance of these water bodies, and we need to ensure that strong protections are maintained. Further updates will be provided during the ongoing OP review process.
