FREE AT LAST........MAYBE!

Well, Spring has sprung, and the slowly warming weather allows us to meet outside now that HM gov says that we can.  The last time that we met outside the Old Custom House, the traffic noise and pollution made it a less pleasurable experience, so for this month only, I am suggesting that we take our chance by meeting  on Thursday morning outside the Cafe du Parc at the usual time of 11.00am.  The forecast is good, Torridge is one of the lowest covid risk areas in the country and let's face it, many of us are in the more senior category so will probably have had the jab.   If more than six turn up, we will have to have two tables.

Gail Hickman has a small team in Appledore that is starting to restore  a community garden situated in Odun road.  For more details I will do a copy and paste of her email to me.

Good morning Angus and all at BSG. Following on from your Honestone car park adventure, I discovered that the Odun Rd, Appledore car park, which is across the road from where I live, could also do with some gardening.

A Facebook post led me to the land owner, which is the Maritime Museum in Odun Rd, who rent it out to the council as a pay n display parking bay. They are delighted we want to take it on.
There are neglected stone edged beds right around the park, so it's a case of turn soil and plant. We are wanting to plant flowers and edibles including fruit trees and herbs.
So, we are the Odun Rd Community Garden, there are lots of members on the Facebook page (please join) but right now only 3 active gardeners.
I have told Councillor Len Ford about out project and he is delighted and has pledged his support.

So the point of this missive is 1. To introduce ourselves. 2. To ask you to help publicise our project. 3. To let you know we would be very happy for any advice which will prevent us having to reinvent the wheel. 4. We would be happy to share excess seedlings, seeds etc with your group.
So, anyone who thinks they may like to join Gail's group, contact her by telephone on 07733107081 or by email using eurozulu@gmail.com
