Coming Soon!
Calapayan Sunday
April 25, 2021
Dear Monte Vistans,
'Tis the April season for partnership renewal: On Sunday, April 25, we will celebrate our 14th year of congregational connection with the Calapayan UU Congregation on Negros Island in the Philippines. Our partnership is distinguished by its investment in the future of Calapayan's youth by providing regular educational funds to a community on the bottom end of the global economic divide.
When the individual sponsorship program began two years ago, seven MVUUC families committed to supporting an individual student annually until high school graduation. Last year our goal to double the number of sponsorships was surpassed! Fifteen students were sponsored. These children are all still in school.
This year we'd love to come even closer to the ultimate goal:
sponsorship of ALL the students.
Thus, for your consideration: Now's the time to sign on.
Elementary School Sponsorship: $115/year
High School Student Sponsorship: $140/year
It's a big commitment, but a rewarding one!
By the way, one individual or family can share a sponsorship with another.
But that's not the only way to give! We still aim to send $50 to the other students as well. In lieu of our traditional collection, we're hoping you'll be moved to send a check OF ANY AMOUNT or use the Donate Button on the website. Whichever you choose, please be sure to note for "Calapayan Children."
This year, we've added a BONUS feature: Next month, all sponsors will receive a Special Delivery of a Filipino Sweet Potato Snack!
Partnership Sunday is coming soon – on April 25. Our guest speakers will be a couple with a distinctive Filipino connection: Sid and Rachel Silliman's topic is "Locating Silliman: Places and People." They will expand on the idea that Silliman University – commonly toured by UU pilgrims to the Philippines when visiting Dumaguete, headquarter city of the UU Church of the Philippines – provides a point of departure for tracing elements of the Philippine diaspora, of which Rachel is one example!
Besides hearing about an intercultural love story, come learn the Filipino Sweet Potato Song!
Looking forward to celebrating our own Philippine Connection.
See you in Zoom-Church.
Mabuhay!
