COVID-19 update
In accordance with government guidelines, the Public Engagement team are still working from home but we are open for business and are continuing to support our individual academic colleagues and Faculties. We will keep you updated on any developments.
We want to support engagement with research in new, creative ways during this period of working differently – do get in touch to discuss with us.
 
Updates on the university-wide response to Covid-19 can be found on the University website.


Applications are open for the NCCPE Engage Academy. This nine month programme can help you understand the principles of high quality public engagement and develop more focused strategic approaches.


The Faculty of Engineering’s Research Showcase is taking place next week. You can find a full list of the events and booking information here.

The fifth Public Engagement Masterclass hosted by the Wellcome group will be taking place this July (19th – 21st). The deadline to register for this event is the 18th May and more information can be found here.

The Festival of International Research and Partnerships is starting on the 19th April. The University of Bristol's inaugural month-long Festival celebrating the breadth, depth, and strength of our international work at all levels from undergraduate students to eminent visiting professors.

The third Bristol Arts Film screening is taking place on Wednesday 28th April, 6-8pm, open to all staff and students. As lockdown restrictions begin to ease and spring is all around us, we will be celebrating the bicycle by showing two short documentaries about cycling (Mama Agatha by Fadi Hindash, and 10 Years and Counting by Touchpaper Productions) and discussing its connection to overall wellbeing. The deadline for the EPSRC Impact Accelerator Accounts is now less than a month away (10th May 2021). This open competition has a range of funds available, from kickstarter projects up to £3,000, exploratory funds up to £15k, and Follow On Funding up to £50,000. For more details see the sharepoint site and if you are interested in applying contact the Impact Development Team.

A reminder that you can also help record responses to Covid-19. The university are documenting how colleagues are responding to the pandemic, through research, engagement and partnership working. Please email community@bristol.ac.uk to record the great work you’re doing to help deal with the virus. Read more about the university’s research-related response.

Funding calls with deadlines soon!

All are invited to take part in the City Nature Challenge at the end of this month (30th April - 3rd May). Bristol is one of over 400 cities taking part in this challenge that aims to connect you with the local wildlife whilst also engaging in a citizen science effort that can help conservation projects and researchers here at the University. The short video above can give you some information on the scale of the event and how to take part.

Read this blog post on the Re-cognition project discussing a group workshop on gender which took place in March, raising awareness of issues such as unconscious gender bias. You can find out more here.
