A new beginning for TBB in a foothills with a beloved, half-century-old past
Tiong Bahru Bakery, beloved for its oven-fresh croissants and quality pastries baked with premium French ingredients and time-honoured techniques, is set to bring its brand of authentic bakes and aromatic coffees to a brand new locale. Situated along the foothills of the historic Fort Canning Hill—in the site that once belonged to the former River Valley Swimming Complex—the bakery’s newest and seventh outpost, Tiong Bahru Bakery Foothills, opened its doors to pastry and coffee aficionados on 12 April 2021.
Hand-baked fame
Staying true to their philosophy of respecting heritage by baking everything by hand, guests can look forward to yet another choice spot to indulge in the already famous array of croissants that have been hailed as ‘the best in town’; and the crusty, buttery and sweet laminated rings of Kouign-Amann.
History-rich locale
No stranger to reviving some of Singapore’s most iconic locales—with bakeries situated in history-steeped neighbourhoods including Tiong Bahru, Dempsey Hill and Chip Bee Garden—the Foothills outpost is housed in two of the original restored buildings that locals will remember fondly to belong to the former River Valley Swimming Complex.
Pool-inspired design
To that end, design elements inspired by its former glory—it was one of the earliest public pools in Singapore which officially opened in 1959—such as lifeguard stands, donut floats and faux “pool rules” signs have been built into the arrival experience to add a touch of quirk and reverence, complementing the swimming complex's remaining structures, in true TBB fashion.
Arriving at the foothills
Perched along the edge of the hill and just minutes on foot from Fort Canning MRT Station, a sense of outdoor calm greets guests as they step into a space surrounded by verdant green. New meets old as quirky pool-inspired props complement the former swimming complex’s remaining structures.

With just a few steps or a push of the bicycle upslope, lies an elongated café housed within the swimming complex’s buildings, designed today to mirror a lodge in the woods.
Step into sunkissed interiors and the inviting aroma of an open kitchen
Sectioned into two seating zones, the expansive indoor area seats 75 comfortably around an impressive island counter, and is characterised by white walls and columns that harken to colonial housings of yesteryear, with see-through panels that allow natural daylight to permeate for basking in sunshine without the heat.

An “open concept” kitchen at the back—a first for the French bakery—now allows diners to admire the artisans at work, while taking in the delicious aroma of French butter and flour as handcrafted croissants are baked fresh every two hours.
Step out onto the patio or a picnic on the lawn
An outdoor patio that seats 60 welcomes those who wish to be closer to nature, while surrounding grassy slopes—including a playground and an entire hill to explore—serve as the perfect spot for an outdoor picnic.

Those who wish to immerse themselves in nature can opt for Picnic Bundles (S$19 and S$28) to-go, packaged into breakfast and lunch sets for individuals. Each bundle comprises an assortment of bakes, salads and beverages to choose from, complete with a customised picnic bag and take-out TBB dining sets for convenience.

New and exclusive on the menu
Sourdough Croissant
Handcrafted with the best French flour and butter, TBB's signature croissants rises to the occasion—literally—through natural leavening with a 159-year-old starter, resulting in a tender tang best enjoyed with a creamy and crunchy crémeux praline filling.

"The location’s rich history and surrounding lush greenery struck a chord in me – it was clear as day that this place has potential and ticked all the boxes that made Tiong Bahru Bakery great in its previous neighbourhoods […] Just like the old River Valley Swimming Complex, we envision Tiong Bahru Bakery Foothills to be an ideal meeting ground that brings generations of families and friends together – this time round over French pastries and freshly brewed coffee."
