The Bethesda Green Innovation Lab Amplifier program supports validation and growth stage companies who have received outside investment and want to benefit from the growing Bethesda Green community. We work with entrepreneurs to grow their teams, strengthen their business models, and expand their networks of customers, partners, and investors
Founded by David Davies (CEO), AgUnity designs technology solutions with, and for, smallholder farming communities in low- and middle-income countries. Tackling issues of poor connectivity, a lack of digital literacy and a lack of affordability, AgUnity is bringing last mile communities into the digital and financial economy. Learn more.

Only two weeks until the Bethesda Green Innovation Lab virtual pitch event: Entrepreneurs as Transformers! Join us to hear about the exciting companies our Innovation Lab members are building to address environmental and social challenges. US Senator Chris Van Hollen, who has sponsored the Healthy Climate and Family Security Act on carbon trading and who supports a Green New Deal, will offer opening remarks. Networking rooms will open at 3:15 to allow breakout discussions with our eco-entrepreneurs; program starts at 4:00.

Innovation Lab Company Updates

BigFoot for Good is proud to announce its new partnership with Catapult Commercialization Services! The two companies are mission-aligned, driven by passionate foodies and industry professionals with one overarching goal:  To help emerging food brands get their products to market quickly, without wasting resources. BigFoot for Good specializes in brand sales strategy and sustainability integration, and Catapult delivers extensive operational and technical product expertise. Together, BigFoot for Good and Catapult Commercialization Services execute and empower brands through every step to launch, from ideation to shelf. 
Jeffrey Neal, founder of Loop Closing was recently featured in a Voice of America broadcast for his innovative on-site composting solution to reduce food waste. Food is wasted much less within local and smaller distribution systems. The Loop Closing model diverts food waste immediately via on-site composting machines positioned where food waste is generated, such as restaurants and universities. Read more in this Loop Closing blog.
Bethesda Green’s Innovation Lab identifies and nurtures green, for-profit startups aligned with our vision for a sustainable, impactful, and purposeful economy.   • Film Festival: Environmental Justice and Communities of Color Join the DC Environmental Film Festival Tuesday, April 20 at 7pm for a series of short films showcasing the initiatives underway in marginalized communities to address a variety of environmental issues. The panel discussion will bring together activists and environmental experts to discuss environmental justice as it relates to communities of color. 
  • Virtual Workshop: Aiming for Zero Waste: Compost Food Scraps in Your Backyard Join DEP Thursday, April 22nd at 7pm to learn how to compost food scraps in your backyard using rodent-proof compost bins. Composting food scraps in your backyard reduces the amount of trash disposed at County disposal facilities, while providing you with nutrient-rich soil amendments to grow healthier plants.

  • Choosing Renewables with CleanChoice Energy: In the US, most electricity comes from burning polluting fossil fuels. However, Maryland and DC residents have the power to choose where their energy comes from. Join us for virtual Q&A with Kathleen Wojtowicz of CleanChoice Energy and learn how you can switch to renewable energy. Monday April 19 at 12pm.
  • City Nature Challenge - iNaturalist Training - The City Nature Challenge is a friendly worldwide competition among metro areas to spot and identify local wildlife. Participants help scientists collect valuable information on urban biodiversity. Join our virtual session to learn how to participate  and use the iNaturalist app to submit observations. Monday April 26 at 5pm.
  • Biking in Bethesda: Learn about plans and improvements to make biking more accessible in Bethesda. Tuesday May 4, 5pm to 6:30pm.

Bethesda Green’s Environmental Leaders Program is an experiential school-year long sustainability program for high school seniors in Montgomery County.
