Have a Seat at the Table

We love a good dinner party. Last month, we held our first gathering at our urban farm in Alphington, where our visitors got an inside look into what it means to grow food right in the heart of a city!

It's been such a pleasure getting to know you (in person, finally!) and we're keen to keep it going. This month, come join us for a moderated discussion about farming, food and feminism. Over dinner and drinks at Jamsheed Urban Winery, we'll chat with a few of the the women who farm, feed and otherwise care for communities and land. Grow / Source / Eat subscribers get a 10% discount!

Also in this issue: A peak at how our seniors cooking program cooked up a storm in support of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, plus an autumn vegetable recipe to get you through the change in seasons!

Farming, Food + Feminism

Women are, in more ways than most people have seriously considered, at the centre of the food system.  Yet, for the most part, their roles in food are unrecognised at best and ignored at worst.

Giving women a fair shot, however, is a win for everyone. A feminist food system is a gateway for food and nutrition security and a path to improved public health. If women farmers had the same access to resources as male farmers do, up to 150 million people would be brought out of hunger.

How do we realise true representation and equality in the food system? This dialogue is a further step forwards in that conversation, starting with the women who farm, feed and otherwise care for communities and land.

Join us dinner, drinks, and a moderated discussion at Jamsheed Urban Winery, where we’re bringing together women who have asserted their food voices and have carved out successful spaces for themselves and others.

Harmony Week with Food In Common!

Nothing brings people together like a shared meal. Last month our friends at Food In Common, our cooking and tech literacy program for seniors, celebrated Harmony Week by cooking up dishes from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre!

It was our privilege to cook the incredible recipes gifted by refugees and published for the Feast For Freedom campaign, which supports people seeking asylum.

Together we cooked Aheda’s Baba Ganoush, Genet’s Tikel Gomen, Hamed’s Jewelled Saffron Rice, and a seasonal salad sourced straight from the gardens!

What's Cooking: Italian Potato, Zucchini and Bean Stew

The cooler months are creeping in on us, bringing cozy evenings with hearty, hot soup.

Not only is this Italian Potato, Zucchini and Bean Stew delicious, it's also easy peasy. Throw it all together in one pot and left to simmer until ready! Credit for this recipe goes to Alisha, one of our team's brilliant produce packers.
