A Bible Verse for Arkholme - Competition

I have now completed the consultation on a new Bible verse for our school. Thank-you very much to all the children, staff and governors that have contributed to this process. We are delighted to reveal that Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 11 will be our school Bible verse:

‘God has great plans for me.’

Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 11

We want to display this verse around school but we need your help. We would like you to create a piece of artwork that reflects this verse. There is a picture below to inspire you! You could use pastels, paint, collage, or a photograph to create your artwork but it must include the Bible verse above. Please bring your completed artwork into school. Prizes will be awarded to all artists!

What has been happening in the classroom?

Welcome back everyone, it’s been great to see everyone this week and enjoy some lovely sunshine too. This week we have started our Julia Donaldson topic and we began with the Gruffalo story. This week has seen the children complete lots of Gruffalo challenges including making Gruffalo crumble in the mud kitchen, building a tree top house in the construction area and carefully cutting out Gruffalo masks. We’ve also been writing about the gruffalo. In phonics we continue to recap phase 3 sounds and in maths we’ve been looking at the teen numbers. On Friday we went on a Gruffalo hunt and enjoyed the gruffalo treats that we made together. We are looking forward to another fun week next week where we will choose another Julia Donaldson book as a basis for our learning. Have a great weekend everyone.
It has been so lovely to enjoy back in school this week. We have started our new topic, Amazing Animals! This week we have been learning about mammals, and enjoyed meeting Mrs Whitaker’s pet rabbit Willow who helped us to learn all about mammals. It was very exciting and all the children loved meeting her. We have also had great fun in our first PE lesson with Mr Fletcher. In art we have been learning about the artist James De Rosso who creates amazing ceramic monsters. In English Year 2 have been working hard on their story writing. We plan to use these stories to enter the Arkholme School 500 words competition so we have been trying very hard with our creative language. We have loved having Miss Taylor join us on Friday. Miss Taylor has shared some fabulous non fiction books with us and started teaching us dancing in the afternoon. Another very busy week! Please check our Google Classroom for our topic overview and home work for this week.
This week we started our Stone Age topic with the team from Woodmatters. The children had a fabulous day making their own axes, creating string from leaves,  identifying animal skulls, and practising their fire lighting skills. They were so inspired by the day that for the rest of the week they have been developing their own Stone Age settlement in the playground, complete with homes, fireplaces, trading posts and axe factory! This settlement had become so extensive by Thursday that Mrs Ingram even had to send the grass cutters away!

This week, we have also begun many exciting new units of learning, including Rules for Living in RE, fiction by the same author in English, and Electricity in Science.

From next week:
PE will be on Tuesdays - please send the children in games kit.
Topic will be on Thursdays - please send the children in forest schools kit, with a school hoodie.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Mrs Burgess and Mrs Cunliffe.

This week the children have been studying The Red Tree by Shaun Tan. They have explored the themes of the book and produced some really great work - examples of which are on our writing wall. They have also written a recipe using imperative verbs based on the idea of what makes a disastrous day out. The children have produced some imaginative and amusing work!

In maths we have been recapping on perimeter and area and we have started a new Times Table card. Science was all about adaption of animals. Based on this idea of animals we started some art work based on pattern and animal faces.

This has, of course, been my first week teaching Owls and I have to say the children have been wonderful; really helpful and welcoming.

PTFA

Sponsored Matchbox Challenge
We have extended the deadline for the Sponsored Matchbox Challenge until Monday, and so that gives you the weekend if you still would like to enter. Please return your matchbox, list of items and sponsor money to school by Monday and then we will get counting and checking to find out who has won. There’s been some really interesting items so far! If you need a matchbox then just message one of the PTFA and we can get one to you. All the money raised will be going towards our continued fundraising for tech items for school so, as always, we really appreciate you getting involved.

Easter Egg Colouring-In Competition
We only received a few entries for the colouring in competition and, as you can see, there was no way that we could decide between their loveliness for just 2 prizes. So, we decided to give all our entrants a prize, everyone receiving a colouring in canvas and set of pens. Well done Arlo, Bethany, Ruth, Coco and Taylor. It was some really great work.
Zoom Social Race Night
Thank you to those families that joined the Zoom social on Wednesday. It was a fun evening of whacky races - including robots, jet packs, snails and pigeons!
We had two winners in the end, so well done to Sophie and Thomas M for getting the most wins on the night.
Have a look at the fabulous advert for the tea towel!
They are available to order via ParentPay at £5 each or 3 for £12
