Catching up with Coxside
KIMBERLEY NOAKES

Coxside resident Kimberley Noakes shares insight with us into how Coxside has been developing stronger links to creative projects, growing community ambition and getting ready to connect more again in person.

CRAB was formulated last year with support from Take A Part (TAP), the catchy name being inspired by our location by the sea.
Coxside Residents Arts Board, is open to all residents in Coxside and we look forward to seeing more and more people as restrictions continue to be lifted.

I live in Coxside myself and love our local area, I feel we have so much going for us and believe that with help from TAP we have an amazing opportunity to mould Coxside into what we want it to be. So the more residents involved right now, at the planning phase, the better.

Our next in person event will be held on the 29th of May, an Activity Day in Teats Hill Park. Come along, take part in the fun and bring any questions you have for us.  We're planning to be there to fill residents in on how our funding applications are going (really well as it happens!) and what events are planned over the summer.

Although it's been a tough winter to move things along we have taken some important steps in formalising CRAB, such as opening our own bank account and holding our monthly meetings (6pm on the Third Thursday of the month by the way, everyone from Coxside is welcome to join in!)

We've got our yearly AGM coming up just around the corner too so it's all go, a very exciting time to be in the community connecting with people!  You may have also seen photos being shared and boxes being delivered for the Seed Activation Project that's been taking place in Coxside in conjunction with JarSquad, another great project that's been able to take place remotely.

But the thing we're most excited about is getting together again, sharing in activities and building our community. Check out our Coxside Neighbourhood Group Facebook page to stay in the loop.

Article in focus

This week's article in focus is a blog piece on NCVO by Sarah Vibert looking at the role that charities and volunteers have had during the pandemic.  A vital tool in bringing different communities together, charities and volunteers have been even more important that ever in supporting people through a challenging time.

"Twelve months ago, few of us could have grasped the collective loss we would experience in the year ahead. Charities and volunteers have had a vital role to playin supporting people and communities in response to this loss: the loss of lives, livelihoods and freedoms...rather than being a ‘great leveller’ as initially described, covid-19 has worsened inequalities within our society. Members of our communities have been disproportionally affected by both the pandemic and the policy measures taken to address it. A number of charities and volunteers have been working tirelessly to expose these inequalities whilst simultaneously offering support."

The blog also reflects on the impact the pandemic has had on charities and volunteers and how things are changing in response to covid-19, the situations and problems it has thrown up and new ways of working that have implemented and may be retained moving forward.  You can check out the whole piece here.
