Hello,

Here is your weekly Brain Tickle Newsletter from TechTello - Learn and be better everyday.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK

"Bad managers suck so much emotional and mental energy from their people that there isn’t any energy left to do real work. More and more time is spent in pleasing the boss and dealing with their tantrums with less time left to do any quality work. The worst thing about the worst boss is they are ignorant of their own ignorance. Recognize if you are a bad manager standing in the way of your employee’s true potential."

EXPLORE

“In today’s world, networking is a necessity. Many if not most of us are ambivalent about networking. We know that it’s critical to our professional success, yet we find it taxing and often distasteful. How can you overcome this aversion?  By shifting to a promotion mindset, identifying and exploring shared interests, expanding your view of what you have to offer, and motivating yourself with a higher purpose, you’ll become more excited about and effective at building relationships."

THINK
"High Agency is a prerequisite for making a profound impact in one's life and work. High Agency is about finding a way to get what you want, without waiting for conditions to be perfect or otherwise blaming the circumstances. High Agency people either push through in the face of adverse conditions or manage to reverse the adverse conditions to achieve goals. Cultivating High Agency won’t be easy. But I assure you that it isn’t inscrutable magic. You can learn it! And I also assure you that becoming a High Agency individual will be profoundly rewarding for you and for the people you work with.”

QUOTE TO REMEMBER

Do we sit down, alone, and struggle with our work? Work that may or may not go anywhere, that may be discouraging or painful? Do we love work, making a living to do work, not the other way around? Do we love practice, the way great athletes do? Or do we chase short-term attention and validation— whether that’s indulging in the endless search for ideas or simply the distraction of talk and chatter?

Wouldn’t it be great if work was as simple as opening a vein and letting the genius pour out? Or if you could walk into that meeting and spit brilliance off the top of your head? You walk up to the canvas, hurl your paint at it, and modern art emerges, right? That is the fantasy—rather, that is the lie.

Work is finding yourself alone at the track when the weather kept everyone else indoors. Work is pushing through the pain and crappy first drafts and prototypes. It is ignoring whatever plaudits others are getting, and more importantly, ignoring whatever plaudits you may be getting. Because there is work to be done. Work doesn’t want to be good. It is made so, despite the headwind.
