Hello, Co-op friends and fans!

Photo: GM Dan.Last week I gave out some erroneous information regarding our Co-op birthday. April 10, is NOT technically our birthday as I mistakenly thought. Long time board treasurer Joe Timer corrected me and explained that April was the month that members got together to establish a plan to take over the old Co-op and keep it operating as a single store here in Roosevelt Center. It wasn't until June 10, that we started operating as the Greenbelt Consumer Cooperative. So, we won't be celebrating YET, but we absolutely will celebrate on June 10.

Plants and flowers and so much fresh food!Photo: Red, Orange, Yellow Peppers.
We're expecting a nice large order on Thursday of starter vegetables and herb plants as well as a bunch of flowers and decorative plants, too. These will live in our little Co-op Garden Center on the ramp. Look for there to be a growing (pun intended), selection throughout the spring. Teddy, our produce manager, is also looking to build our cut floral program with new and interesting items, so keep an eye out for that. Produce is also the home of some incredible deals this week including unbelievable 88 cents a pound red, yellow and orange peppers! Eat the rainbow and save a bundle at your Co-op!

COVID-19 updates
Photo: Co-op Pharmacist administers COVID vaccine.I'm pleased, grateful and proud that most of our staff have chosen to get vaccinated, (or are in the process of getting vaccinated). Melissa, pictured here, is our first in-house vaccine recipient! We're still masking up and remaining safe with social distancing and require that all customers do the same.

We are using an on-line scheduler to schedule vaccines, currently prioritizing our 65+ neighbors. If you are 65 or older and need a vaccine go here: Contact-free - Blog | PrescribeWellness. In order to keep our pharmacists focused on administering as many vaccines as we can, among their other duties, we're asking that you use the on-line scheduler, and please do not call in. The pharmacy staff will contact you to confirm your appointment.

Did you know that the federal government is providing the vaccine free of charge to all people living in the United States, regardless of their immigration or health insurance status? Yep, it's true and not everyone knows this fact, so spread the word!

CDC guidelines are shifting away from over emphasis on disinfecting surfaces and the likely misguided fear of surface contact (or fomite) transmission. Based on the science, we'll be loosening a few of our policies to reflect  this: You are welcomed to bring your own bags from home and we will gladly bag your groceries for you. As it is April and Earth month, this is a great time for this shift to occur and we can all make the Earth friendly choice to bring reusable bags to the Co-op!

Earth friendly choices
Photo: Earth friendly end cap.Speaking of Earth friendly choices, check out our back end cap, between aisle 3 and 4, to find many excellent products that are environmentally friendly and perform as good or better than their harsher counterparts. Perhaps, this Earth month you can commit to making an Earth friendly swap for personal care or home cleaning supplies? It's easier than ever to be greener than ever at Co-op!

Photo: Shanghai Dumplings.Did you know that many groups consider eating less meat one major way that we can have less impact on the environment? It's true and that's one driver behind the world-wide Meatless Monday movement. Co-op can help you get in on this positive sustainable trend with our own very popular Meatless Monday! Every Monday from 4-7 pm, you can get a tasty completely plant-based vegan meal for just $7.99. On Monday, April 12, is Asian Night with Macro Vegetarian Sesame Noodles, Shanghai Dumplings and steamed broccoli. Then on Monday, April 19, is Indian night with Macro Vegetarian Chickpea Masala, Samosa Dumplings, rice, and steamed cauliflower.
