Welcome to the WCA family, <<First Name>>!

I first wanted to share a warm thank you for your recent gift to the WCA. Your gift provides a great impact on our community, preserving our vital free community and residential services including emergency shelter, counseling, childcare, case management, court advocacy and, of course, a safe space to heal.

My name is Bre Young, and I am the philanthropy specialist here at the WCA. I am here to serve as your point person and connector to all things WCA. My passions for community healing and liberating self worth and value create a beautiful symphony with the mission and values of the WCA; providing Safety, Healing, and Freedom from Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault.

This last year has demonstrated the vast and crucial need for our services to our survivors and community. In the last year, we experienced 6X the number of emergency intakes into our secure domestic violence shelter than we had in 2019 as well as an 84% increase in domestic abuse related calls. Home is Not Safe for Everyone, but we are here

I wanted to take this opportunity to invite you to learn more about what we do through our Virtual WCA Mission Tour: If These Walls Could Talk. This 35 minute virtual tour is the best way that you can learn about the challenges that survivors of abuse face and the services we provide to help survivors on their journey towards freedom. On Wednesday April 28, 2021, I want to invite you to participate in Denim Day, a global sexual assault and victim blaming awareness campaign.

Why Denim?
Denim Day originated in light of a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court in the 1990s. On her first lesson, an 18-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her 45-year-old, married driving instructor. While he was initially convicted of the crime and sent to prison, the ruling was later overturned when the defense argued that because the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped remove them, thus implying consent. The following day, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity with the victim.

How can you participate?
  • Wear denim on Wednesday April 28, 2021. Denim not acceptable at work? No problem! Order your WCA Denim Day campaign materials here!
  • Take photos of you and your friends, family or coworkers wearing denim using the hashtags #DenimDay and #WCABoise
  • Hang Denim Day posters in your windows/email then out to peers/ coworkers. Print posters online here
If you would also like to get to know more about our agency and see how you can get involved feel free to to set up a one-on-one chat with myself using this calendar link: Bre Calendar Sign Up Link

Again, welcome to the family, and our greatest and deepest gratitude for gifting us with your time and philanthropy!
