Dear <<First Name>>,

I hope this message finds you well. Yesterday before class I was reminiscing with healthcare workers/yoga students about how it felt last year, at this time: we recalled appreciating how the colder weather last April kept people inside and reduced COVID spread; this year, we are glad for the early spring warmth and sunshine to help with boosting mental health.

I’m not the first one to mention how heavy the toll on mental health is due to this pandemic and its related events. I imagine we all have our own felt experience of it. A Dollar A Day Foundation, which supports Canadian mental health and addictions programs (and to which 10% of our Saravat proceeds are donated to), has reported that: chronic loneliness is a major issue, suicidal thoughts have doubled since the beginning of the pandemic, and there has been a 35-40% increase in opioid-related deaths in Canadian cities since March 2020.

I’ve heard a lot of folks say, “There’s going to be a lot to deal with when this is all over.” They aren’t wrong. But inaction now, or putting things off, will make it worse. So why not begin dealing with it now?

We can’t decide our futures. However, we can decide our habits, and our habits decide our future. Little steps, however small, can add up to quite a bit.

Perhaps you had habits that kept you sane and steady, but they fell away at some point. Can you pick up where you left off, and start again?

You don’t need to know what the 100th step is going to be. Just start with step one, then two, then three.

May spring give you the boost of energy you need to begin again.
