Werriwa e-Newsletter

09 April 2021

Dear <<First Name>>

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Easter long weekend and spent some quality time with family and friends.

This coming week sees the beginning of Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. For believers and non-believer alike, it is an important period of reflection and a time to catch up with family and friends. I extend my best wishes to everyone celebrating the month.

I hope you all have a great weekend and stay safe.

Kind Regards

Anne

AstraZeneca Vaccine

New advice from medical experts regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine suggests that the use of the Pfizer vaccine is preferred over the AstraZeneca vaccine in adults aged less than 50 years who have not already received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Immunisation providers should also only administer a first dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to adults under 50 years of age where the benefit clearly outweighs the risk.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is safe to use, however it is crucial to acknowledge potential side effects and Labor accepts the advice of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.

Since last year, Labor has been calling on the Morrison Government to secure five or six vaccine deals for insurance against a situation exactly like this. Scott Morrison dismissed these concerns and we’re now seeing the costs of that dismissal.

The Government must do everything they can to secure more vaccines before Australia gets left behind by being one of the few countries who won't be fully vaccinated by 2022.

National Reconstruction Fund

Last week, Leader of the Opposition Anthony Albanese announced Labor’s commitment to a National Reconstruction Fund. This fund is the first step in Labor's plan to rebuild Australia's industrial base and shape our future.

The fund will provide $15 billion to support projects that create secure, well-paid jobs, drive national development and invest in the Australian economy. It will also support new and emerging industries, such as electric vehicles and battery storage, creating jobs for the future.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many of our local manufacturers over the last year. Many have shown amazing resilience by adapting and pivoting into new product lines and creating more local jobs in the process. If we had a Government that genuinely supported local manufacturing and jobs, I have no doubt more local businesses would do the same.

Australia must build back better after the pandemic. We must invest in local business and job creation.

Mobile Offices

I will be holding another set of Mobile Offices tomorrow, Saturday 10 April, alongside State Member for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong.

Mobile offices are a great way to stay in touch and let me know what issues matter to you and your family.

I can assist with Federal matters including My Aged Care, Immigration, NDIS, NBN, Centrelink, Veteran’s Affairs, or if you would just like to chat.

I will again be joined by Liverpool City Councillors Nathan Hagarty and Charishma Kaliyanda.

If you have time, pop by for a chat. See below for times and locations.

Household Chemical Clean Out

This Sunday 11 April, Liverpool City Council are working with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to provide residents with a free and environmentally-safe opportunity to dispose of their unwanted household chemicals.

It's a great opportunity for residents and the community to clean out their cupboards, garages, sheds and laundries of unwanted chemicals and drop them into Council to be recycled or disposed of correctly.

Materials that will be accepted include:

  • Paint and paint-related products such as thinners, strippers and varnish
  • Pesticides and herbicides (fungicides, bait/poisons, wood preservatives)
  • Solvents and household cleaners
  • Motor oils, fuels and fluids
  • Batteries
  • Gas bottles
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Pool chemicals
  • Acids and alkalis
  • Hobby chemicals, such as photography chemicals
  • Fluorescent tubes

The event will be held on Sunday 11 April from 9:00am-3:30pm at Liverpool City Council Operations Centre, 99 Rose Street, Liverpool.
