Please Note: This version of the 4/7/21-4/13/21 E-News contains a correction to the date that was originally listed for this week's Humanist Discussion Group.
That meeting will take place this Sunday (4/11/21) at 9:30 AM.
We are currently in Phase 0; the two-week incidence level is now  262.1/100,000, and the two-week percent positive is 5.7 %.

We will reach Phase 1 when the two-week incidence rate is less than 200 per 100,000.  We have already met a two-week percent positive rate of less than 10% for Phase 1.

BUUMERANG GUUFERS

Over the years, some of our members have moved away, only to return to our warm embrace. Some of them have spoken on Sundays to explain what drew them back to GUUF. This past Sunday, on April 4, Betsy and Drew Daubenspeck spoke, and at the upcoming service on April 11, we will hear from Richard and Hilary Nelson. Click on the links below to learn more about these remarkable members who couldn't stay away!

No one is rich, no one is poor, we've got 24 hours each.”

April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day.  In the absence of an advance directive, medical personnel rely on family members to determine what a patient’s wishes might be.  Family members often struggle to make difficult decisions, and sometimes they aren’t available when a decision needs to be made.  Advanced planning for final arrangements can alleviate a lot of stress for both an individual and their loved ones.

Please join us via Zoom on either Friday, April 16 at 3:30-5:00pm or Tuesday, April 20 at 6:30-8:00pm to learn how you can create your own last wishes document to be placed on file with your healthcare providers.

Rev. Lisa will also explain how to plan a memorial service in advance, and Jim Yockey will discuss how to set up a directive for placing cremains in the Fellowship’s Memorial Garden.  Planning kits are available through
the Office and forms are available on the Fellowship website at:  https://greenvilleuu.org/memorial-garden-2/

 S.O.S.!  Save Your Stuff!!

In order to move along the inventory in Audrey's Closet and add some income to GUUF’s coffers, plans are in progress for a late spring / early summer Outdoor Yard and Audrey's Closet Thrift Store Sale.   This one time event will be open to GUUF members and the community.
We would love for you to add to the merchandise for sale.  As you begin spring cleaning, please save your treasures for GUUF - think: nice clothing, good kitchenware, furniture, yard care items, tools, too.

Details about when, how to donate, etc, are all dependent on the county Covid data, so stay flexible and Stay Tuned!!

Updates will appear in the E-News/Spark and Sunday morning service announcements.  Questions can be emailed to volunteer@greenvilleuu.org.

UUWOC
Happy Springtime from the UUWoC!

As our school prepares to renew our license, we held our annual CPR/First Aid Training for all staff members. We had fun and learned all of the most up-to-date information. Each employee of our school is required to be certified in CPR and First Aid - just one more of the myriad ways we go above and beyond for our children.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Food Drop-Off & Glass Recycling—
Saturday, April 17
• 9AM - 11AM  • GUUF Parking Lot
Collecting non-perishable food items for Iglesias Jesus el Rey’s Food Pantry We’re also accepting Walmart gift cards for the families at the Rowland McFerrin House.
Gift cards will go towards purchasing fresh fruit and veggies. If you prefer
to send a check, please make it out to GUUF and write
“Rowland McFerrin House” in the memo line.

Free Glass Recycling—Saturday, April 17 • 9AM – 2PM • GUUF Parking Lot
Glass recycling will be held on the same day as the food drop-off, but the hours have been extended for your convenience. Two glass recycling bins will be set up next to the metal dumpster before you get to Audrey's Closet. They’ll be there from 9 AM-2 PM. Bricolage Dynamics will collect the glass and recycle it into an environmentally friendly sand material. Thanks to Elaine Brummett for organizing this.

We ask that you follow these glass recycling rules:
• Mixed broken glass is great, but NO porcelain, window panes, food or candle wax
• Wash your glass as if you were planning to use them again
• Remove caps and lids from bottles and jars
• Paper labels are okay
• No plastic or paper bags, boxes, etc.—only glass!

Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup—Saturday, May 15th • Time TBD
We’ve been assigned a two-mile stretch of Rutherford Rd from N. Pleasantburg Dr. to Donnan Rd. The first scheduled cleanup will be Saturday, May 15th. SCDOT will supply us with vests and bags. You need not be a member of GUUF to sign up. (So invite your friends!!!) Remember, you can volunteer once, or as many times as you like. It’s a great way to get outdoors, enjoy each other’s company (while being socially distanced), and do some good for our community.
If interested, please drop Karen a note at kpw0716@gmail.com
