International News For Humanists

Our international coordinator, Trisha Rogers, has picked out these items as being of particular interest this month:

  1. Global Exchange on Religion in Society is recruiting about 150 participants from across the world for its EU-funded 2-year project. The deadline for applications is 6th April.

  2. Humanism in times of Crisis is a free conference being run by Humanists International on 14th August at 14:00 BST. Registration is now open.

  3. Pakistani human rights activist, Gulalai Ismail has been created the first-ever Ambassador for Humanists International.

  4. Scotland’s blaspheme law has been repealed on 11th March, following humanists’ campaigns.

  5. The right of children to freedom of conscience in Romania is the controversial PHD thesis of Dr Emil Moise, President of Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience, aiming to start a debate around the right to freedom of religion or belief.

  6. Liberian humanists condemn the school expulsion for witchcraft of a 6-year-old child. The school has offered no evidence for the ‘crime’. Humanists Liberia calls for support for the child, Catherine, and an apology from the school.

  7. Puerto Rica humanists denounce gay conversion therapies as torture and are lobbying the Puerto Rica Senate to pass a bill to outlaw such therapies.

  8. The Australian Humanist Magazine’s latest edition is available free online. It focuses on our relationships with other animals.

Support for the Asian American community from the American Humanist Association has been issued in response to the tragic March 17 Atlanta-area shootings and other increased violence against the Asian-American community.
Any feedback - on the events, these emails, or the way we run the group - would be much appreciated: info@centrallondonhumanists.org.uk

Many thanks.
