April = Action + Art + Activism

We’re bringing you the latest news and views from around the movement, a special call for artsy activists for bodily autonomy, and a round-up of opportunities in the movement and beyond.

March movement ACTION

Throughout March conversations, conferences and events marked milestones and celebrated progress around gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and women’s rights. SheDecides activists, 25x25 young leaders and Champions were at the centre of these moments, driving conversations and marking progress, but also making loud and clear calls to action for the path ahead for a world where SheDecides.

Many #TakeYourSeat conversations about bodily autonomy started on SheDecides Day, and they continued through March! SheDecides Morocco organised an engaging ‘taxi-ride’ conversation on Zoom about the bodily autonomy issues that are silenced in Moroccan society.
SheDecides Nepal brought together young people and civil society organisations to discuss adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender based violence and safe motherhood in Nepal.
The following week, on International Women’s Day, more people took their seat to break the silence and challenge stigmas. Conversations are only just starting – as we look ahead to April and beyond, tell us what issues we need to talk about more using #TakeYourSeat and tagging @shedecidesgfi on social.

Calling all ARTISTS!

From 7 May to 31 July this year, SheDecides will host a Virtual Gallery to ignite bodily autonomy conversations by connecting art with activism.

We’re looking for artworks to exhibit in the Gallery which focus on bodily autonomy issues, and advance the conversation about gender equality throughout the Generation Equality Forums and beyond.

Do you know an awesome artist that would love to be featured? Or are you a painter, illustrator, film-maker or photographer?

For more information on the Gallery and to submit artwork, click here. Deadline for submissions: 12 April 2021.

Young ACTIVISTS stand up and speak out

Ahead of the Generation Equality Forum in Mexico City, SheDecides 25x25 young leaders launched their Global Vision for a New Normal in the presence of SheDecides friends, allies, and Champions. These young leaders from 25 different countries around the world came together to commit to driving change for a New Normal as we work through COVID recovery as a global community.

"We need to foster young feminist networks just like ours and build stronger relations with different generations within the international feminist movement," said Chaimae Bourjij, 25x25 young leader from Morocco.

The Global Vision calls on grassroots organisations, global leaders and everyone in between to use their positions to open doors at all levels and meaningfully involve young people#TakeYourSeat means women and young people being at the decision-making table as the path forward is charted on gender equality; everyone has a stake in making that happen and we call on you all to join the fight!

ACTIVISTS in the news

25x25 young leaders Luna and Tabata, with UN Women deputy director Åsa Regnér, say in today's Independent that we need a united approach for equal rights and bodily autonomy, to fight for a feminist future. Read more here.
SheDecides Nepal organisers Sabina and Sanila say in Rising Nepal that SheDecides has grown into a movement which gives young people space, to listen to and understand their perspectives, to fight for a world where she decides.
