Announcing the launch of the University of Nottingham Energy Institute
We are delighted to announce that energy activities at the University of Nottingham will now be focused on key societal challenges of 'Transport and Mobility', 'Energy Generation and Management' and 'Communities and the Built Environment'. This is the result of a review of strategic objectives and launch of the rebranded University of Nottingham Energy Institute. This will build and improve on what has been achieved so far, bringing together expertise from the Faculties of Social Science, Science and Engineering.

Climate change shown to influence river systems in new research
An international research team has demonstrated for the first time that climate change caused by humans is responsible for changes in river flow worldwide. Simon Gosling, Professor of Climate Risk at the University of Nottingham, with Dr Hannes Müller Schmied of Goethe-University Frankfurt, led the coordination of the hydrological model simulations used in the study.

Business support for Net Zero transition
How are businesses managing the transition to net zero? The University of Nottingham can support those keen to reduce energy costs and improve resilience through Energy for Business, a scheme delivered by the Energy Innovation and Collaboration team and funded through the European Regional Development fund. Available to Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire based SMEs and sole traders, support includes consultancy, informative energy and sustainability events and a capital grant scheme for energy improvements.

Microgrids for communities in Chile
A workshop, part of the highly successful W-ENER Series, was jointly hosted by the University of Nottingham - Chile and the Universidad de Talca, Chile in March to mark the completion of a collaborative project to provide power and a sustainable future to indigenous communities in Chile. Professor Pat Wheeler has been involved in developing microgrids as part of the project and gave an opening address as part of this Worldwide Energy Network (W-ENER) event.

Onshore solution for offshore wind
Before a wind farm is constructed data needs to be gathered about wind speed conditions, inherently difficult at offshore sites. The University of Nottingham partnered with industry experts Goldwind and used data from the Technical University of Denmark to develop an approach combining measurements and simulation. The result is a far better and cheaper understanding of offshore wind resources.

Anaerobic Digestion paper published in Energy Policy Journal
A paper by Associate Professor Hafez Abdo of the University of Nottingham and Professor Rob Ackrill of Nottingham Trent University has recently been published in the Energy Policy journal. The paper, entitled 'On-farm anaerobic digestion: A disaggregated analysis of the policy challenges for greater uptake' explores how the take up of AD to provide renewable energy and waste management on farms could be improved through a more strategic approach to policy.
