ARIA Excellence in Teaching Award


The Excellence in Teaching Award was initiated in 2007 by the New Awards Committee. This award recognizes excellence in risk management and insurance teaching. Applicants/nominees should have a distinguished record of excellent teaching throughout their academic career. Nominations for the award are welcome. An individual may be nominated by a colleague, who then must confirm with the nominee that they are willing to provide the required materials. A letter outlining the reasons for the nomination will serve as the required letter of recommendation from a colleague.
 
This award will be presented only in years when an exceptional candidate is identified. The 2021 call for applications and nominations is now open. Deadline to apply is May 15, 2021. Download further information and the application here.


Call for Proposals: Les B. Strickler Innovation in Instruction Award 2021

Risk Management for Individuals and Enterprises v2.1


The Author team of the textbook “Risk Management for Individuals and Enterprises v2.1” by the publisher Flat World Knowledge, is proud to announce an update to the textbook (v2.1) that includes the COVID-19 updates. This textbook facilitates the most current “on-line” and/or “face-to-face” teaching with integration into Canvas. National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance at FSU Spring 2021 Virtual Research Seminars


The Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance at Florida State University invites you to its Spring 2021 virtual research seminar series. This semester, our Research Seminar series has a theme focusing on “Emerging topics in natural disaster risk management”. The seminars focus on topics related to the mitigation of natural disaster losses, building resilience, and new approaches to financing natural disaster losses. ARIA‐ASSA Session - Call for Papers NOW OPEN

ARIA has opened a call for papers for the 2022 ARIA-Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Meetings. Papers can be on any topic in insurance economics or insurance-related finance.  Completed papers will be given preference and only one submission per author will be considered. 8th Annual IAFICO, 2021 Global Forum for Financial Consumers (GFFC) - Hybrid Format

We are pleased to announce the 8th annual conference of IAFICO, the 2021 Global Forum for Financial Consumers (GFFC), on August 6th~7th in a hybrid format of online-onsite webinar, hosted by Seoul National University. This year’s theme for the Conference will be “Financial Consumer Protection (FCP): Linking Theories and Evidences to Policy Practices,” under which the organizers would like to invite on-going research papers, both theoretical and empirical, on those behavioral patterns and policy practices that are relevant to FCP. "Risks" is an international, scholarly, peer-reviewed, open access journal for research and studies on insurance and financial risk management. 24th IME Congress

The International Congress on Insurance: Mathematics and Economics (IME) is hosting a worldwide virtual event coordinated by an international team of four universities on July 5-9, 2021. We invite all researchers, practitioners, and students, to submit an abstract for this revolutionary event. Submissions are welcome in all areas of insurance mathematics and economics. All live presentations will be recorded and made available on demand to registered participants.
Please submit your abstracts via the web-conference tool by April 30, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. (UTC-5). Notifications of acceptance into the conference program will be communicated by mid-May 2021. EGRIE Seminar 2021 Call for Papers

The 48th Seminar of the European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists (EGRIE) will take place virtually September 16–18, 2021. All presentations will be organized in live sessions between 2 pm and 7 pm CET. Completed papers or detailed abstracts should be submitted by April 15, 2021. Risk Management and Insurance Review


Risk Management and Insurance Review is currently seeking well-organized reviews of “evolving” areas of risk management and research. Manuscripts should provide a review of seminal papers in the area, a discussion of existing research (theoretical and empirical) and how it has developed over time, and an outlook for future research in the area. Authors should submit their manuscripts via ScholarOne at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rmir. For a recent example that provides a review of research on cyber risks, see “Cyber risk management: history and future research directions” by McShane, Eling and Nguyen, in the Spring 2021 issue!

Journal of Risk Education


The Journal of Risk Education (JRE) requests paper submissions for 2021 issue(s). To submit an article to the Journal of Risk Education, please create an account at http://www.jofriskeducation.org and follow the electronic submission process.  Please note that the Journal does not accept paper or email submissions. 

The JRE includes several sections for publication:

Articles:  double-blind peer reviewed articles related to risk management and insurance teaching and education. Both theoretical and pedagogical pieces are encouraged.

Editorials:  editorially-reviewed commentary related to the practice of risk and insurance education.

Book Reviews:  editorially-reviewed summaries of books and periodicals that pertain to risk management and insurance, with preference given to those items that have practical classroom applications.

Doctoral Perspectives:  double blind peer reviewed articles that are by or for doctoral students planning to become risk educators in the future.  Any topic of relevance to doctoral candidates may be submitted.

Teaching Case:  each issue will feature one teaching case for use in the risk management classroom.  Teaching cases should be founded in the academic and practitioner literature, and will be double-blind peer reviewed.

Postdoctoral Position In Climate Risk Management Research

The Center for Risk Management and Decision Processes at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking applicants for a one- to two-year postdoctoral research position focused on managing the physical impact risks of climate change.

The position is located in Philadelphia, PA, starting in summer or fall 2021 for 1-2 years based on year 1 performance evaluation and continuation of funding. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a related field within the last two years (or expected completion by the summer of 2021) from an accredited institution. University of Alabama - Associate Professor / Professor

The holder of the Bickley Chair is expected to become a leader in promoting the insurance program in the College, the University and the State. The Chair should be outstanding in teaching, have a strong relationship with the insurance community, recruit students to the insurance program and aid in the placement of students in insurance internships and insurance careers. The candidate should also demonstrate evidence of applied scholarship, which might take the form of publishing in recognized academic or practitioner journals, organizing or participating in various conferences, or providing advice to insurance-related organizations. The position can be at either the associate or full professor level. The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. degree or an equivalent terminal degree in an area related to insurance and financial services. The position appointment will start August 16, 2021. Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. or an equivalent terminal degree in an area related to insurance and financial services in economics.
