GLOBAL HEALTH FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

Faculty Mentor Award Applications Now Open

The Faculty Mentor Award program aims to encourage University of Minnesota researchers to involve students in their global health research projects.

The program builds student skills, knowledge, and abilities in global health research while developing their interpersonal and interprofessional abilities in international settings. Awards of up to $5,000 are designed to defray costs associated with incorporating a student researcher into global health research teams.

Reducing barriers to funding

Faculty Mentor Awards reduce the costs and barriers associated with incorporating student learning and training into global health research.

Proposals are encouraged, but not required, to be developed collaboratively between a mentor and student.

In light of ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions, funds are not required to be used for travel of a UMN student to an international research site. Use of funds to support student involvement can be broadly interpreted and proposed, including effort for a student to work as a research assistant or to support a student from an international partner institution.

Discover How to Apply

Faculty Mentor Awards are available to faculty members at the University of Minnesota from within the health sciences. Faculty may use funds to support the following activities:
  • Training expenses for any student who will be working on the mentor's research project
  • Stipend for a student research assistant enrolled at a partner institution
  • UMN health science graduate student travel and/or living expenses at an international research site
  • Student travel to present at a scientific conference
  • Other uses of funds may be considered — see our website for details
Faculty must submit a proposal by Monday, May 17. Find details and application instructions on our website ►
