Creativity is a major Kaleidoscope pillar. We believe coloring outside the lines is key to thriving in cross-cultural situations and staying connected to community even in the midst of transition. I blame it on the substitution section of the Wycliff cookbook I grew up cooking from and my dad's conviction that anything can be fixed with a little Duct tape.
You know when you're trying to explain "culture shock" or "passport country" to a younger TCK and it feels like all the words are too big? Creative tools and activities can act as a translator and make confusing concepts easy to understand.
This is why I love a new TCK children's book, The Boy Who Weaves the World! The author uses Pierre's travels to show how all the places we live in and people we meet teach us something about the world and how to weave the beautiful pattern that is our own, unique TCK story.
Next week Kaleidoscope is hosting a LIVE Author Read Aloud with Marci Renee!! She will read Pierre's story out loud, tell us a little bit about her own three traveling boys and lead an activity where little hands can create their own weaving inspired by their travels.
Want to join me and lots of TCK friends for 30 minutes of story-telling? The virtual Read Aloud is recommended for third culture kids ages 6-12 but FREE to anyone who likes a good story. Maybe even your whole family!
Can't wait to see you there! Let's read around the world :)
