Collaboration Across Programs

Our departments and programs love a good chance to collaborate, and in March a great opportunity arose!

Natural Resources and Zero Waste program staff got together to train and certify 19 corpsmembers in CPR/AED and First Aid Training. That brings our total for the year to 28 CPR/AED & First Aid Certifications provided to corpsmembers this year—and it's only April!

CCNB offers more than 40 possible certifications to active corpsmembers and CPR/AED & First Aid is one that is helpful in any career or industry a corpsmember may work in after their time in our program.

85% of corpsmembers successfully completing the CCNB program will earn at least one certification before moving into their chosen career. Research has shown that participants certified in Forklift, Sawyer (chainsaw), or CPR/First Aid will earn higher wages after job placement.

Carpet Recycling
Earlier this year, our Sonoma County Zero Waste team launched our first-ever carpet recycling program. Working with Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), carpet and carpet tile are collected four days a week at our Cotati location. By recycling carpet with us, you reduce your overall disposal costs, save landfill space, and help to employ and train our corpsmembers!
Carpet and carpet tile collection is available to the public at $28 per vehicle-load on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at our Cotati location from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm (except on holidays.) Our location just off the 101 is a lot more convenient than landfill, so keep us in mind the next time you're working on a project removing carpet.
Green Note
We all know that recycling is good for the planet—reusing material means less of a demand on our natural resources. Extracting and then manufacturing new materials almost always uses more water than recycling.

But did you know that recycling electronic waste is also much safer for our health?

The electronic goods we use are made up of hundreds of different materials and containing toxic substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and flame retardants. If not recycled properly, these toxins can seep out into the environment and into our soil and water. Whether that happens in our own backyard or abroad in under-resourced communities, no one should have to drink water and eat food tainted with these chemicals.

Always responsibly recycle your electronic waste. When you recycle your electronic waste with CCNB, you recycle using the highest industry standards and ensure materials are handled right here in California.
