New Palo Verde Patcher's quilt on display
Come to the library and see the latest quilt display "Old Blue" by Sharon Root.

Sharon made her “Old Blue” quilt in 2017, which is based on the pattern designed by Laura Heine. The quilt reminded her husband Harlan of an old 1950’s era pickup he used to have. Most fabrics in the quilt were from her stash and new fabrics she purchased to complete it. She wanted it to look like an old abandoned truck in an Iowa field with the rusted weathered look.

Sharon took a class on how to do collage quilting in 2017 in Arizona and completed her “Old Blue” quilt shortly thereafter, using the fusible applique method; she machine quilted it on her regular machine. The most challenging part of it was deciding where to put all the stray cats, eight of them. See if you can find them!

Sharon took her first quilting class in 1976 in California creating many treasures for family and friends throughout the years. Although her very first quilt blocks are still in an ‘unfinished objects’ (UFOs) box. Someday, they will be finished?

Sharon has started two quilting groups in two different states and owned her own quilt shop in Red Oak, Iowa in the 90’s. She has also sewn patterns from her home for a sister publication of Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine. Although she has tried to stop quilting and try new crafts, she always falls back to her love for quilting and the challenges quilting creates for her. She is not afraid to try new ideas and techniques.
