Hope you all are doing well. We have some absolutely lovely weather forecasted for next week; sunny with temperatures in the mid 60's predicted by next Wednesday and to continue into the weekend. Almost like summer is just around the corner! Hopefully everyone has the opportunity to get outside and soak up the sunrays while they stick around.
We are having a proverbial "slow news week" here at The Beer Junction; not much new to report. Pictured above you can see our bartender Henry scoping out his prospective next 'Staff Pick of the Week.' Since we are at a bit of a dearth for news, I figured it would be a great opportunity to get to know our staff a smidge better. Henry recently celebrated his 1 year anniversary here at the Beer Junction and got his final dose of the vaccine. That means now all of our staff members have gotten at least their 1st dose and full immunity for us is about a month away. Very exciting stuff! Scroll down to the section below for a little Q&A to get to know the man behind the mask.
Finally, my apologies to anyone who fell for our Instagram April Fools' Day hoax last week- No, we do not in fact have Pliny the Elder in stock. The staff member responsible for the error is being punished for this blunder.
Cheers!

Favorite Styles of Beer or Cider-
I used to really love big chocolate-y stouts and porters, but these days I'm into anything sessionable. Lagers, pilsners, saisons, session IPAs and pales and pub-style porters and brown ales are my go-to's.
What brought you to The Beer Junction-
I heard this was the best place in town for beer! I believe in food and drink as artistic endeavors and that they can be shared as such without being pretentious. If you are what you drink, I only want to be the best stuff.
Hobbies-
This last year has kinda killed a lot of my hobbies, but I'm an avid runner, hiker, and (now that I live down on Alki) I'm a regular beach-comber as well. I also play Dungeons and Dragons with several friends scattered all across the country and I'm an incredibly amateur banjo player.
Favorite Sandwich-
A reuben stacked a mile high.

Weekly Beer History + Fun Facts
Altbier
An indigenous German Ale, traditional Altbier evolved over centuries in the Rheinish metropolis of Düsseldorf. Whereas southern Germany is known for its lagers, the Rhineland, like neighboring Belgium, is known mainly for its ales. It is a crisp, clean-tasting, full-bodied beer of usually 4.7% to 4.9% ABV with a copper brown color, and a malty-to-nutty bittersweet finish. Despite being brewed for centuries, modern Altbier acquired its name only in the 1800s, when the Düsseldorf original became threatened by the "new" beers of that day- the lagers of Bavaria and Bohemia transported there by a growing railroad network. "Alt" means "old" - an allusion to the old style of brewing, before the emergence of cold-fermented lager beers.
Altbier is a unique beer style because it requires an unorthodox "cool" fermentation by a specialty yeast that works best in a temperature range between 55° F and 66° F. Although most other ales are fermented relatively fast and warm at temperatures between 59° F and 77° F, and most lagers are fermented slow and cold at temperatures between 46° F and 56° F, altbier fermentation is somewhere in between. Because of this cool fermentation process, altbier yeast generates fewer fermentation by-products such as esters. In addition, after fermentation, altbiers are aged in lagering tanks for 4 to 8 weeks at roughly 28° F to 41° F. This slow, lager-like maturation allows the yeast to reabsorb much of the small amounts of esters and aldehydes it introduced into primary fermentation. Done properly, the result of this complex brewing technique is an unusually mellow and clean-tasting ale of exceptional drinkability.
