District Evangelism Enabler - Spring Update 2021
Hello and welcome to the April edition of the District Evangelism Enabler's Newsletter which includes information on upcoming events and resources to advertise in your churches and small groups, as well as my update and an encouraging good news story!

Part of my role in the District over the last few years has included working with local churches as they consider their growth/end of life plans, or as they think about Mission Statements and strategies for outreach.
At the moment it’s really difficult to think about such things and perhaps we need to take some time to consider what God has been saying to us over this last year and how we might now respond to our communities. Follow this link to read my reflections on this and to find some questions that might be helpful as congregations go back into their buildings. https://www.newcastlemethodistdistrict.org/mission-planning-after-covid/

I honestly think we are entering into a very difficult period of time for the Methodist Church…but perhaps we are also heading into a time when we will see more mission and pioneering as we navigate this new way of living. Whatever happens, let’s hold firmly to the greatest commandment – to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind, and secondly to love our neighbour as ourselves.

Good News Story - Community Prayer Space

A prayer bench was set up outside St John’s, Kingston Park in July 2020 and a simple invitation was offered via Facebook and a community magazine encouraging people to use it at any time to pray, reflect, be still, or just sit and rest.

Laminated sheets attached to the fence nearby include prayers and poems and from time to time there has been literature to take away, or ribbons to attach to a cross.

In August 2020 a memorial garden was created adjacent to the bench and members of the community invited to scatter forget-me-not seeds and to place a name marker in recognition of people lost during the pandemic.

Residents and staff from the nearby care home had written and laminated a poem which was added to the display.
