Notices & Reminders

  • End of Term 1: Friday 23 April will be a normal Day 10. School will close at 14:00.  Term 1 reports will be released on that day on the Parent Portal. Please contact info@rghs.org.za for assistance if you are having problems accessing the portal.
  • Bugs' Boutique will be open on Saturday 10 April. 

News

School Governing Body Elected Office Bearers


At their first meeting on 7 April, the newly elected School Governing Body chose the office bearers to serve for the next 12 months. Congratulations to those elected and we thank you for your willingness to serve the school over the next three years.
  • Mr Mahomed Latiff, father of Saar-rah in Grade 12 and Imaan in Grade 9, was elected as Chair. Mr Latiff is an expert in tax law, working for the South African Revenue Service and has served the Governing Body for the past two years as a co-opted member.
  • Cllr Yagyah Adams, father of Salma in Grade 9, was re-elected as Deputy Chair. Cllr Adams is an independent member of Cape Town City Council where he chairs the Municipal Public Accounts Committee. Cllr Adams has served on the Governing Body for the past two years as an elected parent.
  • Ms Bahijah Hashim, mother of Iman in Grade 11 and Haniya in Grade 8, was re-elected as Treasurer. Ms Hashim is the Director of Internal Audit at UCT and has served on the SGB as an elected parent for the past two years, and for the past year as Treasurer.
  • Mr Wihan Neethling, Head of Innovation at RGHS, and elected Educator Representative, was elected as Secretary. Mr Neethling is newly elected to the SGB this year.
At the same meeting, the following staff members were co-opted onto the Governing Body, in non-voting roles:
  • Gill Blackshaw, Deputy Principal (Holistic Growth)
  • Graeme Broster, Operations Manager
  • Mariam Naidoo, Head of Finance
  • Ulpha Edries, Head of Communications & Fundraising

Cavendish Square Easter Egg competition

Rustenburg Girls' High School's entry for the Cavendish Square Easter Egg competition was made by Grade 8 learners and the Creative Lab Learner Leaders. 
Our egg will be exhibited throughout Cavendish Square from 26 March - 12 April 2021.  Please go and vote for our egg or vote online here. The school who wins the competition will receive a R10 000.00 Cavendish Square voucher.
Last week we said our final farewells to Ms Rebecca Goble (Life Sciences teacher and Grade Head) and Mrs Denise Campbell (Head of English). We wish them both the very best for the future and hope that they will stay in touch.

Life Orientation Matters

  • KPMG Future Leaders Programme: The objective of the Future Leaders Programme is to expose top performing students in Maths and Accounting to the world of work and enable students to make informed decisions about which degrees to pursue at a tertiary level. Current Grade 11 and Grade 12 Maths and/or Accounting students who are achieving a minimum of 70% for each subject are invited to apply.

Online Racial Literacy Parent Session

Please let us know whether you will be able to join us for the event on Wednesday, 14 April 2021, 17:30 to 19:30. This will be an online event, held on Zoom - the link will be sent to all those who register prior to the event.
