Festival (506) is taking place October 21 to 24, 2021, in various venues across New Brunswick. Festival (506) features 12 EMERGING + DEVELOPING artist showcases (recorded live during the event), professional development and networking sessions (both live – fingers crossed – and online), as well as training sessions pre-event on stage craft and industry event prep.

Le Festival (506) se déroule du 21 au 24 octobre 2021, dans diverses salles du Nouveau-Brunswick. Le Festival (506) présente 12 vitrines d'artistes EN ÉMERGENCE et EN DÉVELOPPEMENT (enregistrées en direct pendant l'événement), des sessions de développement professionnel et de réseautage (à la fois en personne – on espère! – et en ligne), de même que des sessions de formation pré-festival au sujet de la présence sur de scène et de la préparation aux événements de l'industrie.

ExportNB is a year-long program aimed at furthering the careers of 6 to 8 EXPORT-READY + EXPORTING artists. ExportNB showcases are pre-recorded in a professional studio and are structured to fit the needs of international industry events. The MNB team will work with the selected cohort to identify and pursue opportunities in accordance with the artist's export strategy.

NOCTURNE - CALL FOR PROJECTS

Nocturne welcomes proposals to their 14th annual art at night festival from artists at any stage of their career. Nocturne: Art at Night (Nocturne) is a fall festival that brings art and energy to the streets of Kjipuktuk (Halifax & Dartmouth). The completely free annual event showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Mi'kma'ki (Nova Scotia). Nocturne 2021 will take place from October 13-16, 2021.

ECMA Announces 2021 Export Buyers Program

The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is excited to present the 33rd annual celebration of the East Coast Music Awards in Sydney Nova Scotia from May 5-9, 2021. This year, we will present a hybrid event offering a virtual International Export Buyers Program and industry conference, Our Music Means Business. Over 100 international delegates from the United States, France, Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan, Australia, Scotland, the United Kingdom and Canada will participate in the digital edition of the ECMA 2021 Export Buyers Program. +++ info >

SOCAN ADDS NEW PLATFORMS FOR ONLINE CONCERT

SOCAN members will now be able to receive royalties from both free and ticketed online concerts on more digital platforms. Both “performance” and “reproduction” rights royalties will be paid for, respectively, one-time live digital broadcasts and copies of music. For qualifying free online concerts, including those on Facebook Live, Instagram Live, YouTube and Twitch, $75 will be distributed. This applies to all setlists provided and to a maximum of 30 concerts per quarter per performer. The funds will be distributed to the music creator and publisher rightsholders of the music performed. More digital platforms will be added as they become licensed with SOCAN. +++ info >

ARTS NB NEWS // NOUVELLES DE ARTS NB

The Fresh AIR (artist-in-residence) program will return for the 2021 summer season. The program will support 10 artists as they engage with the public and develop their artistic practice or existing projects over five days at a New Brunswick provincial park or tourism site. // Le programme AIR Frais sera de retour pour la saison estivale 2021. Le programme d’artistes en résidence servira à appuyer 10 artistes qui s’engageront auprès du public et qui développeront leur pratique artistique ou des projets en cours pendant cinq jours dans un parc provincial ou un site touristique du Nouveau-Brunswick. +++ info >

Contact ONtour: Showcase & Pitch Applications

Contact ONtour (formerly Ontario Contact) will be going virtual this year. Contact ONtour will take place virtually during the week of September 13th-18th, 2021, with some activities taking place throughout September. While we wish we could gather in person, we are excited by the opportunities that a virtual conference present. This year all showcases and pitches will be virtual, and both will require an application. Applications are now open to all Canadian artists and are due via IWanttoShowcase by May 7th, 2021 at 11pm EST. Click below for full details. +++ info >

IBMA World of Bluegrass Showcases

Official Showcases are the premier platform for new bluegrass music during IBMA World of Bluegrass! Applications will remain open from April 5 - April 30. Given the impacts of the pandemic, the IBMA Showcase Selection Committee will be selecting up to 10 Virtual-Only Official Showcase acts in addition to the typical 30 in-person acts. Preference for Virtual-Only Official Showcases will be given to international acts, who face continued barriers to travel. Application Deadline: Friday, April 30, 2021 +++ info >

Indigenous Music Classroom Resource

Canada’s leading music education charity, is proud to announce Kanata: Contemporary Indigenous Artists and Their Music, a learning resource that will support teachers in bringing Indigenous voices, perspectives and music into classrooms. This new resource is a product of collaboration between several Indigenous educators, advisors, and artists. It will empower any grade 7 to 12 music or social studies educator to explore and celebrate contemporary Indigenous music in the classroom in a way that is authentic, respectful, and culturally appropriate. +++ info >

Showcase at Contact East 2021

Artist submissions for Contact East 2021 are now LIVE! Contact East is APA's hallmark showcase summit and Atlantic Canada's premiere performing arts booking conference. The event brings together performing arts presenters, managers, and agents to see top-quality performances from a diverse range of artistic genres, including but not limited to: music, cabaret, dance, Deaf, Disability and Mad arts, circus arts, theatre, comedy, youth-oriented programming, and cultural performances. Contact East 2021 will take place in Moncton, New Brunswick from Thursday, September 23rd to Saturday, September 25th. +++ info >

MusiCounts + TD Community Music Program

he MusiCounts TD Community Music Program provides musical instruments and equipment to community centres, after-school programs and other community non-profit organizations. MusiCounts supports both new and existing music programs. Community organizations who need instruments to ensure their music program’s sustained growth are encouraged to apply, as are community organizations who hope to begin offering a music program with MusiCounts’ help. The MusiCounts TD Community Music Program is offered in allotments up to $25,000 to deserving programs who are in need of MusiCounts’ support. +++ info >

WOMEN IN MUSIC CANADA, ATLANTIC CHAPTER    

Music·Musique NB, Music Nova Scotia, Music PEI, and Music NL are coming together with WIMC to establish an Atlantic Canadian chapter of the organization. Women in Music Canada (WIMC) is a registered non-profit organization, and one of the largest music industry associations in Canada. With chapters across the country, WIMC hosts educational, career development, and networking events alongside broader programming initiatives, industry engagements, research, and advocacy.  +++ info >

 

Artist applications open for Global Music Match 2.0    

ECMA is pleased to announce applications are now open for Global Music Match 2021. To apply for GMM submit HERE.

This program is an intensive 16-week, artist driven program, designed to establish connections between export-ready artists around the world. Through these introductions artists will enhance their social media skill sets, interact with new audiences, create new and engaging content and have the opportunity to work together and create musical collaborations on a global scale.

Les Jeunesses Musicales Nouveau-Brunswick (JMNB), par l’entremise du Fonds Laetitia-Cyr, offrent des bourses à des musicien.ne.s du Nouveau-Brunswick qui poursuivent des études avancées en musique classique. Il peut s’agir de projets tels que suivre des classes de maître, participer un camp musical reconnu, à un concours national ou international, ou tout autre projet musical connexe. Pour l’édition 2021, les candidatures peuvent être soumises d’ici au 15 avril, pour des projets artistiques étant complétés au plus tard le 15 avril 2022. +++ info >

Pan-Am Indie Summit    

Happening on April 15, 2021, the inaugural Pan-Am Indie Summit will be held virtually, designed to connect the independent music communities from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego. Jointly organized by A2IM (USA), ABMI (Brazil), A.S.I.Ar (Argentina), CIMA (Canada), IMICHILE (Chile), and WIN (global), participants can expect to engage with various trade organizations in the western hemisphere, meet other business owners through one-on-one networking meetings, and gain deep insight into the various markets across the Americas. +++ info >

Dans la foulée d’un financement supplémentaire au Fonds de la musique du Canada (FMC), Musicaction lance un nouveau programme pour l’année 2021-2022 qui vise à appuyer la présentation d’événements musicaux sécuritaires dans le contexte actuel, tels les spectacles, les vitrines et les tournées d’artistes canadiens, devant un public en présentiel comme en virtuel. Cette nouvelle initiative dotée d’une enveloppe de 6 M $ pour le marché francophone est supervisée par la Direction de la politique et des programmes de la musique du ministère du Patrimoine canadien et administrée par la Fondation Musicaction. +++ info >

Support for Live Music Events

The purpose of the Support for Live Music Events program is to stimulate the employment of Canadian artists and cultural workers, including technicians and other service providers and supporting workers, by providing financial support for live music events featuring Canadian artists that can be presented before an in-person audience and/or through digital dissemination. The funding will mitigate the significant financial risks associated with presenting live music events in the current uncertain climate. Events supported through the Canada Music Fund (CMF) are expected to generate earning opportunities for artists and cultural workers in the live music sector.  +++ info >

Unscripted Twillingate Digital Arts Festival 

Applications are now OPEN for the Digital Arts Residency in Twillingate (DART)! This program offers two digital artists the opportunity to live and work in Twillingate for two months each starting in June 2021.

Artist 2: Aug. 1 - Sep. 30, 2021

Artists in residence are provided a place to live and work in the historic town of Twillingate, a weekly stipend, and the opportunity for community engagement. +++ info >>

JAZZAHEAD! 2021

CQM and CIMA are once again partnering to coordinate the Quebec and Canadian delegation at Jazzahead 2021. The virtual edition of the event will be presented from April 29 to May 2 and will feature several online activities including showcases, networking and conferences.

Radio Starmaker Fund for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour

The next deadline for the Artist Funding Program for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour will now be May 20th, 2021. The website for the Radio Starmaker Fund is now back on-line and ready to accept applications. This funding stream is available to eligible musicians who have not yet met Starmaker sales criteria. This will be a "stepping stone" program that recognizes the systemic barriers that prevent otherwise eligible applicants from qualifying for the established Starmaker programs. +++ info > jerryleibowitz@starmaker.ca

2021 Professional Development Schedule

Canada’s Music Incubator (CMI) has confirmed the company’s professional development schedule for 2021, which includes the core programs (Artist Entrepreneur, AE West, and Artist Manager), and features the addition of Virtual Artist Manager and CMI One-On-One.  Applications for all 2021 programs are now open. Artist Entrepreneur has been offered since 2012, AE West since 2017, and Artist Manager since 2015.  Space for all physical and virtual programs is limited except CMI One-On-One which is limited by CMI mentor availability.  +++ info >
