On Easter, it seemed as if the whole world was alive again! My family went for a bike ride around lake Monona and my three year old daughter, Eleanor, has been constantly pointing out flowers to me on our walks in the neighborhood.
God’s creation is a truly amazing gift! It feeds us both physically and spiritually. It evokes a sense of awe and wonder. But we are seeing irrefutable evidence that we as humans have failed to protect and care for creation and have harmed it in ways that may be irreversible.
The ELCA, our national church body, has invited us into conversation about how we, as Christians, are called to care for God’s creation by issuing a social statement that calls for its care. The statement offers a vision of God’s intention for us to care for the natural world, acknowledges human sin as the cause of the environmental crisis, and expresses many ways that are called to respond.
During the next three weeks, we will be discussing Caring for Creation at our weekly Social Justice Lunch on Tuesdays at 12:30. I invite you to be a part of the conversation!
In the meantime, in these busy days, I pray that you will find a few moments to step outside and find peace in the natural world!
In Christ,
Pastor Emily
